Frostgrave: A Sword and Sorcery Adventure – Part 1
Rekamark was not a very impressive city, but anyone who wanted to go to Felstadt found themselves at one of the last halfway civilized outposts of mankind before entering the ruins of the cursed city.
"Rekamark," Balthasar said to his apprentice Achibald, thoughtfully folding his arms.
"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious...".
And with this little intro I would like to welcome you to the next ongoing project at the Chaosbunker. Okay, I know that there were already a few articles about Frostgrave and that I actually didn't want to start building a warband until 2020, but when I assembled and painted the first models, the enthusiasm got its grip on me. It just felt good to get back into a generic sword and sorcery fantasy setting and let my creativity run wild.
Crisis 2019 haul
Back from yet another successful show - CRISIS 2019! It was amazing short weekend in Antwerp, great company, enjoyed a lot of good chats. The show managed to withstand the troubles of Brexit, include lots of traders from both sides of the channel and a pretty filled Bring & Buy.
I'll cover the show itself in a couple of articles of their own, as usual and as in the past. But this one, is about my haul from the show.
Journey of the Maulers: A legendary pun
For quite some time I wasn't sure whether I should repaint this gentleman or not. This thrower was the first conversion for the Maulers and also the test mini for the colour scheme. I remember sacrificing the figure of a classic savage orc shaman on boar to get the hand that points away from him - a typical quarterback movement in American Football.
Adeptus Titanicus – Questoris Knights with Thunderstrike Gauntlets and Rocket Pods
The Imperial Knights receive an upgrade and now have full access to the armoury of the Questoris Knights, incl. the new Thunderstrike Gauntlets and Rocket Pods.
Black Seas – 3rd Rates Squadron
In addition to the Frigates and Brigs from earlier this week, I want to cover the third plastic sprue as well - the 3rd rates. These are currently available as a squadron of 3 in a boxed set.
The name third rate comes from the British rating of ships of the line. A third rate ship of the line would usually have 64 to 80 guns mounted, thus making it less gunned than a second rate ship (90 to 98 guns) and first rates with 100 guns and more (so far only available as resin models by Warlord Games.), both usually have an additional gun deck, sometimes even two in case of the first rates.
Black Seas – Frigates and Brigs Flotilla
After expanding Bolt Action into the naval combat with Cruel Seas, Black Powder benefits from a similar treatment and is expanded into the Age of Sails with the new Black Seas ruleset. Warlord Games introduced three new plastic sprues with ships in 1/700th scale of which we're going to cover the Frigates and Brigs today.
These sprues are part of the Master & Commander starter set as well, but are available as a Flotilla for 20 GBP and cover two Frigates and four Brigs.
Journey of the Maulers: Forever Gabru
After I started to play my Wanderleague parallely to painting the remaining players, the presentation mode has also changed slightly. Besides the introduction of a new player I will also try to give some game summaries, give an update about the season and add some snapshots.
But first the next player: Gabru Kneebreaka is, as the name suggests, from the fanclub of da Kneebreakaz. The idea for it came before I even painted the fans. This Blitzer is a homage, a small thank you to all the faithful readers, who follow the project now already in the 15th article.
Of Kings, Knights and Halloween on the Black Seas
It is the Halloween weekend and I thought that I had seen a horror-scenario for Black Seas, but I am unable to find it. Anyhow, there is Dreadfleet, of which I used the battle mat from the boxed set already with Cruel Seas.
Dreadfleet was a bit of a surprise back in 2011, when it was released as a stand-alone boxed-set. The rumours lead many to believe, that we would see a re-release of 1993's Man-o-War.
