A miniature Odyssey – Harryhausen’s best

Aaaah, skeletons, a real classic! I think everyone of us has encountered these stereotypical villains in some way or another, be it in computer games, movies, or during a very old-fashioned walk through the haunted house at the fair. In my case, the image has been formed by the classic Jason and the Argonauts movie, of which you can still easily find film scenes on YouTube.

Frostgrave: A Sword and Sorcery Adventure – Part 3

My little Sword and Sorcery project is going into the next round with a bit more routine from today on. In the coming weeks updates will always happen on a Frosty Friday (if there are any).

In this article I would like to introduce the puppy of the bunch. In terms of game mechanics, the combat dog is an excellent gap-filler when you start with a warband, where you want to spend your entire budget at the beginning of your campaign, as he only costs a measly 10 gold.

Frostgrave: A Sword and Sorcery Adventure – Part 1

Rekamark was not a very impressive city, but anyone who wanted to go to Felstadt found themselves at one of the last halfway civilized outposts of mankind before entering the ruins of the cursed city.

"Rekamark," Balthasar said to his apprentice Achibald, thoughtfully folding his arms.

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious...".

And with this little intro I would like to welcome you to the next ongoing project at the Chaosbunker. Okay, I know that there were already a few articles about Frostgrave and that I actually didn't want to start building a warband until 2020, but when I assembled and painted the first models, the enthusiasm got its grip on me. It just felt good to get back into a generic sword and sorcery fantasy setting and let my creativity run wild.

Frostgrave: Zombies

Since I intend to play a necromancer in Frostgrave, I might need some zombies sooner or later, which will be awakened by the master and his apprentice. As luck would have it, Chaosbunker boss Dennis had a few Mantic Games zombies left over and I always wanted to see what you could get out of these minis with some simple methods.

Dreadball Part 3: Dreadball Kick Off Review

In early 2013, Mantic Games launched a futuristic sports game that has grown steadily since. So why are we taking a look at the very first version of the game today? Well, for one the basic game is still available online, and for another it's still a well rounded product as a game in my opinion. For people who haven't had anything to do with Dreadball yet, the game designed by Jake Thornton is also a great introduction to the science fiction setting Warpath by Mantic.

Dreadball Part 2: Quick and Dirty

Ishibashi FoodCo

Everyone has to eat something and the Ishibashi Interstellar Food Conglomerate, often simply referred to as Ishibashi FoodCo, knows that. The company is specialized in serving the outer rim of the Co-Prosperity Sphere, as many of the regular suppliers are avoiding these zones. Now Ishibashi also wants to take root in the galactic core and wants to draw attention accordingly. What better way is there to do that than with a corporate Dreadball team?

And with this little intro I welcome you to the long-announced series of Dreadball articles. Last year, I introduced my Maurauders team and showed what can be done with a little bit of effort.

Outlook 2019 – The hobbywhip for the boss

While Dennis summarized 2018 in his annual review quite smoothly, I‘ll take a look into the glass orb for 2019 and do what a true hobbyist can do best: make plans and try to do everythin possible that they turn out differently! Accordingly my main point on the list of good intentions for the new year is to stick to my plan!

First of all, there is a warband for Age of Sigmar: Skirmish, of which I have already finished two models and where the progress on the rest is nearing completion.

Forest Goblin PIP

Afterwards I‘ll take on Dreadball for a while, as Mantic Games was so kind to provide us wit the second edition starter box, as well as two more new PVC teams. Hobbywise there will be more stuff in this department as well, because of course I want to have at least the teams of the starter box painted - and that from both editions, the first and the second.

DREADBALL EPISODE 1 – Team presentation: Marauders

Until Monday, July 9th 2018, Mantic is giving a 25% discount on all Dreadball teams. For us enough reason to launch a series of Dreadball focused articles, where we will introduce some of the teams and review both editions of the game. We`ll start with Darkhand's Disciples, a team of Marauders.

The Disciples are made up of ex-pirates and convicts. It is named after the notorious Orc general and raider Darkhand, who took so much pleasure in the game that he quickly set up an own one. Although Darkhand is no longer the owner of the team, the name persists.

Dreadball - Marauders Dreadball - Marauders

Playwise Marauder teams consist of Guards and Jacks, while they don`t have Strikers at all (the type of player who is most likely to score points). While in the first edition of Dreadball they were able to keep up relatively well with the better teams, they find themselves more in the midfield in the second edition, as the Jacks got better, but with the amount of beafier teams, the Orcs got a little weaker.

Mantic Games Studio 2018

As mentioned earlier, we combined Salute in London with a day trip to Nottingham. First stop on friday morning was Mantic Studio. As with the Warhammer World, this wasn't the first time visiting Mantic. It was quite impressive to see, how Mantic has grown over the years.

Mantic Games Studio 2018

My first visit at Mantics was 2010, back then Ronnie and his crew was located at "Mantic Towers" with roughly the space that the new front area covers. 2013, for the first Warlord Games Day, I was the second time at Mantics. They already moved to the outskirds of Nottingham then, and moved from an apartment to an independend office building with enclosed warehouse. Now Mantic has moved again, into an even larger office building, roughly twice the old building, covering a front desk with visitors area, multiple studio offices, production facilities and a warehouse.

In the front is a gaming area, with couple of tables and a front desk. Several games from the Mantic range were displayed, including the board games. On the front desk was a loose assembly of the new and upcoming terrain crates, along with announcements to the new Hellboy Kickstarter.
