Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire – Spiteclaw’s Swarm

The matching counterparts to the Duardins of The Chosen Axes are the Skaven of Spiteclaw's Swarm. The Skaven, almost human sized rat-men, are one of the few (if not the only) faction that kept their name during The End Times and the introduction of Age of Sigmar. As the "existence" of these giant rats is still argued about in the lore (in the records of the human realms the sights of Skaven is continouisly dismissed and the people who saw them simply labelled as insane), they live in the ground, in dens and caves, and sometimes these large underground settlements cross the cities, deep in the mountains of the dwarfs / Duardin, making the two a fitting bundle for this release of Shadespire.

The warband expansion of Spiteclaw's Swarm consists of 4 Skaven clan rats and Skritch Spiteclaw himself. It is set at a price tag of 22.50 EUR and contains two pre-coloured sprues in brown, a card deck and brief instructions on the assembly.

The card deck covers 65 cards, 5 cards for the warband itself, 29 are unique cards for the Orruk warband and 31 universal cards (split across objectives, upgrades and ploys) to be used with any Warhammer Underworlds warband.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire – The Chosen Axes

The next double of the Shadespire warband extensions, after the Sepulchral Guard and Ironskulls's Boyz, will be The Chosen Axes and Spikeclaw's Swarm, beginning with the Fyreslayers.

The Fyreslayers are part of the Duardin race and are searching for the Ur-Gold, the remains of their god Grimnir. Grimnir fell when he fought Vulcatrix, the mother of Salamanders, and burst into the metallic shards of Ur-Gold. The Ur-Gold is accepted by the Fyreslayers as payment for their mercenary duty (they will fight against and alongside anyone as long as the payment fits) and can be forged by the Runemasters into mighty runes. As such even the rumours of Ur-Gold in the mirrored city is motivation enough for any Fyreslayer to go on this journey.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire – Ironskull’s Boyz

Where there is chaos and destruction, Orruks cannot be far away. Somewhat close to the Khorne Bloodbound warbands (Reavers and Fiends) in their intention / motivation, we see what separates the Green from the Red, in this review on the Shadespire warband of Ironskull's Boyz.

Earlier this week, I started the coverage on the Shadespire warbands with the Sepulchral Guard.

Ironskull's Boyz is a 4 Orruk strong warband expansion for Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire and costs 22.50 EUR. It comes with the pre-coloured two sprues (in matching orcish green!), a card deck and brief instructions on the assembly.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire – Sepulchral Guard

In addition to the starter box for Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire, I'll cover the expansion boxes for the warbands in sets of two. This week it will be the Sepulchral Guard and Ironskull's Boyz.

I actually bought this warband box before I even got the starter box. It was the starting point of a fantasy warband, in combination with the Deathrattle boxed set. Now you can buy the Sepulchral Guard without the Shadespire content as an easy-to-build kit as well.

But let's get back to this warband review. Games Workshop offers these expansions for 22.50 EUR each (20 EUR without the Underworlds cards) and the Sepulchral Guard is the largest warband of the first wave expansion with 7 miniatures.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire

Just before the next edition of Age of Sigmar will be released, I want to take a closer look in this review on one of the "introduction" games to the Warhammer World, Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire.

Games Workshop - Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire Games Workshop - Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire

Games Workshop released Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire last year in 2017, as a tactical miniature board game, at a lower entry point, much smaller in size and number of miniatures as for example Warhammer Quest: Silvertower. Shadespire is played in an ancient and damned city, between the realms of Light and Shadow, in the new post-Old World Warhammer Setting, as an "arena game" using two hex field boards with matches taking around 30-45 minutes. Everything you need for your games is included, with the push fit (means no glue needed) pre-colored plastic models and you only need a cutter to prepare the game.

With the mid-season break on the TV series by AMC, it is time for some The Walking Dead, but this time as a miniatures boardgame by Mantic Games. And with all the Kickstarter pledges arriving, I want to show you, what the regular box looks like.

Iron Kingdom – The Undercity Boardgame

Inside the World of Warmachine and Hordes, the Iron Kingdoms, there are tabletop and role playing games and even miniature board games. The latest spin-off board game is "The Undercity" (here seen the german version "Die Unterstadt").
