CONflict Rhineland 2025

We've been looking forward to this! CONflict Rheinland took place again last weekend, and we once again hosted our own table with Deth Wizards this time.

To put this event into context, CONflict used to be a public event with traders until 2019, but it switched to a closed format when it was relaunched in 2022, and we've been going ever since. We've had tables of our own for the last three years. So, we packed the car with some essentials and headed for Langenfeld, near Leverkusen.

The event runs from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon, with some people only staying for Saturday. As we have shown you the car park so many times over the last few years, we skipped it this time. I know, I know — traditions with our event coverage — but unnecessary repetition is wasteful.

As everyday life caught up with some of the participants, there were some last-minute changes to the hosted games. But don't worry — the replacements and other options were colourful too.

There were a lot of different setups and settings in various scales. Honestly, even with our 16-hour stay, we only managed to squeeze in four games.

This Ancient Greek table used the Bello Ludi rules to narrate the Lies of Odysseus and was hosted by Thomas M.

ModernMiniatures had this modern combat table, Dead Snow, which used the Asymmetric Warfare rules.

There was also Cthulhu Death May Die with the Cursed Tides scenario by Rusus and Tom.

We introduced Robert from Wolpertinger Miniatures to the event hosts. This meant that Drudenfuss could also be played there, with direct access to the miniature range that he produces himself.

Over the past few months, we have been busy preparing for this event, with Florian and me taking care of the terrain and warbands for a Deth Wizards game.

Deth Wizards is a skirmish game involving necromancers, developed by Snarling Badger Studio. We played several rounds throughout the day. The first was PVE to familiarise ourselves with the rules, and we steamrolled the NPCs fairly easily. The next match was PVP, but with an additional warband of villagers on the table, and the heroes proved to be quite challenging. It's interesting to see how you can set up the warbands differently, ranging from low-tier hordes to some very special creatures of the night. The pacing was good overall, and the damage output was impressive, so unless you have a good healer, don't get too attached to your minions.

The final game of the night was a special scenario in which the villagers were in the middle, with a total of four players hunting them down.

Gregor brought Galleys and Galleons by Ganesha Games and we had a very entertaining game. The rule set is compact and the rounds are quick, but it takes a bit to get an overview of the charts. Once you get the hang of it, though, it's really smooth. Naval wargames are a category in themselves due to the vessels' special movement. That distinctive aspect ultimately secured me the win, as the enemy flagship left the table as they were too fast to reduce speed or change direction, despite my dice rolls being incredibly poor. Team Würfelkrieg interviewed the hosts of the various tables and helped Torsten organise the event.

Nevertheless, it was an entertaining game, and I will surely keep it as an alternative to Black Seas for smaller games.

Dino hosted Mortal Gods by Footsore Miniatures and I finally had the chance to try it out. I was hooked, and I managed to trade a few Victrix sculpts — you need around 15 miniatures for this game. Expect to see even more coverage of this game here.

It was a long day, but very entertaining. At around 1am, we headed back home. We had a great time and took the opportunity to take a group photo with the Wargaming Daddies/Malkränzchen folks.

We're looking forward to the next events, which will most likely be the Rhein Main Multiversum 2025 and the Paint Meetup in Lützensommern in the winter.

While we were talking about possible games to host next time, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Torsten and his team for organising everything so well and for the great food provided by the kitchen crew. Count us in for next year!
