Legions Imperialis – Order Tokens and Objectives Markers

This part of the latest wave for Legions Imperialis comes as a bit of a surprise: the Order Tokens and Objective Markers.

They will be available to pre-order from 23rd August and in stores from 6rd September. The recommended retail price (RRP) of this set is 20 GBP / 25 EUR.

The set contains 92 tokens in total: 86 order tokens and six objective markers, spread across three sprues.

The Order Tokens are split between two sprues: a medium-sized one with 43 tokens and a smaller one with six Objective Markers. The casting is clean with only minor mould lines. I should mention that these were cast in the UK, which isn't always the case with gaming accessories (some terrain kits, such as the Battlefield Trophies, Void War and Shattered Dominion bases, were produced in China).

The design of the tokens and markers is a 3D variant of the paper ones supplied with the Legions Imperialis starter set.

The objective markers are approximately 32mm in diameter and feature the letters A to F on the front side and the Legions Imperialis icon on the reverse.

The Order Tokens are 18mm in diameter and depict the five orders: First Fire, Advance, March, Charge and Fall Back. All have the same back cover featuring the Legions Imperialis icon. The 86 order tokens are not distributed equally: 14 are Fall Back, 16 each are March and Charge, and 20 each are First Fire and Advance.

What else can we show you? Well, they are markers, and due to their structure, they can easily be painted with a primer, drybrush and wash. However, as I wanted to show you some ideas on what to do, I did some digital painting.

A generic set of colours like the paper markers or the colours of the Horus Heresy maps would work well.

Of course, you can also paint them in the colours of the Legiones Astartes, such as the Imperial Fists, Sons of Horus, Ultramarines or Word Bearers.

Depending on your focus, it could be the Collegia Titanica as well, for example the Legio Astraman or the Legio Magna.

Conclusion

As mentioned in the first sentence, these were unexpected and came as quite a surprise. I was already considering the Horus Heresy marker set and wondering if it would be a good option for use with Legions Imperialis when this set was announced alongside the Legions Imperialis novelties in the Big Summer Preview.

This kit contains a good number of tokens and they are of high quality, most likely because they are produced in the UK rather than China, where blurry details have been an issue in the past. At 20 GBP / 25 EUR, they are more expensive than their Horus Heresy counterparts (15 GBP / 20 EUR), but cheaper than most of the alternatives provided by third parties, and with 92 tokens across the board, they offer better value for money.

In terms of getting these game-ready... Yes, cleaning up and removing mould lines from 92 tokens takes time, but, as mentioned earlier, you have creative freedom and can achieve an interesting look with just a primer, drybrush and wash.

The Horus Heresy and Legions Imperialis are brands by Games Workshop.
