Mortal Gods – Objective Markers

In preparation of the upcoming demo table and battle reports on Mortal Gods I supported Dino by building some object markers.

I printed the base decoration elements from this set by Edinburgh Miniature Company and a chest from the A Ghostly Odyssey set by Loot Studios and grabbed some 40mm round bases by Warlord Games. Usually my go-to plastic bases are the flat ones by Renedra, but as I wanted to have the decoration immerse more into the ground, I went with the small lipped ones by Warlord.

In total I wanted to build nine objective markers, primarely used for Mortal Gods. You'll mostly be fine with six, but I just wanted to be sure and have a bit of variation depending on the scenario.

I glued the printed resin parts onto the plastic bases with super glue, added a bit of cork and created various designs to function as points of interest. After that they went into the bottomless pit of basing sand, that I have been using for approximately 20 years now.

Everything received a grey primer for a neutral base tone and I used the following paints for the base colours.

  • Stone - P3 Bastion Grey
  • Terracotta - Citadel Balor Brown
  • Earth - Army Painter Leather Brown

This time I went for a first highlight prior to adding a wash, and mixed each of the paints with a bit of Army Painter Skeleton Bone (about 50/50).

After that, I applied a first wash of Army Painter Soft Tone and went in certain areas for a darker contrast by adding Army Painter Strong Tone. Once the wash has thoroughly dried, I applied a first dry brush with the Skeleton Bone mix of each paint.

A second drybrush was applied with Skeleton Bone (on the brown base colours) and Vallejo Off-White (on the grey base colours), along with some spots of grass, using Dusty Earth Flock. The trim of the bases was painted in Citadel Balor Brown, as it fits the colour palette of Dino's demo table.

The final objective markers fit well with the table and setup, and you'll see them in the upcoming battle report.

While they are certainly battle ready, they are not completely finished. I am thinking about adding some black paintings on their sides, as it was common with greek vases. Maybe I'll do them with a brush or try out a fine liner.
