Age of Sigmar – Stormcast Eternals Vigilors
The Stormcast Eternals Vigilors are also part of the Stormbringer series, and are one of the last kits that we want to review individually on here.
The Stormcast Eternal Vigilors are ranged infantry who wield lightning-charged Boltstorm Longbows. They specialise in scouting and marking enemies, enabling the rest of the Stormcast army to hit them more accurately. On the battlefield, they act as mobile support archers — tougher than mortal bowmen, but not intended for frontline combat.
A full box containing 10 miniatures has an RRP of 55 EUR, meaning the contents of Stormbringer Issue 31 are worth 22.50 EUR. The box contains the same two sprues as the ones here, but twice as many, and each comes with options for a Vigilator Alpha, as well as five 40 mm round bases. If you purchase them through Stormbringer, be sure to check the full instructions, as you will find more information on the variants/options than in the magazine.
The sprue's casting quality is good, as is the use of space within the frame. As a unit of 10 is built from two sets of these, you have the same base bodies, with A and B variants for the poses, as well as bare-headed and helmeted variants and two different poses for the Vigilor Alpha.
Since we have a set of the sprues, we are going to build a small unit of five from them in this review. Unlike some of the other models in the range from the Dominion release, this is a regular multipart plastic kit that requires glue for assembly.
We will start with pose 1, which comes with four different heads: two bare-headed and two helmeted (one of which is for the Alpha). The figure is always armed with a bow and a sword, and you can choose to position them on the left or right. There is also an alternative sculpt of the bow and sword for the Alpha.
The second pose, a female Vigilor, has the same options. There are four different heads, two bare and two helmeted, including a variant for the Alpha. The same goes for the weapons, which come in a regular version and a more decorative version for the Alpha.
Starting with pose 3, we have the standard Vigilors, who can be equipped with either a bow and arrow or a bow and sword. This one has two different heads as well.
Pose 4 features another female Vigilior with two different head options. She is either drawing a bow or holding up a scroll.
Pose 5 is a male Vigilior with the usual two different heads and weapon stances.
The squad was quickly assembled, and the poses are dynamic overall, which is fitting for an advancing unit. Just look at the amount of spare bits you get from a single set of sprues!
Stormcast Eternals are quite tall compared to the Age of Sigmar range, and the Vigilors are even slightly taller than the Liberators, towering over regular mortals.
Here is a unit of five built models, shot from various angles.
Conclusion
The Vigilors are an interesting and dynamic addition to the Stormcast Eternals range. They certainly add to the Liberators' close combat poses in a meaningful way. Even when working with two sets of five poses, they created a lot of variation, not only in terms of helmets/bare heads, but also in terms of overall poses. The fact that there are two different Vigilator Alphas and lots of spare parts for further customisation is great!
Assembly was quick and easy. There were no issues with the fit, and the minor mould lines were easily removed from the parts.
You can also use these models for Warcry; the rule entry can be downloaded from the Stormcast Eternals list on the Warhammer Community website.
