Star Wars Shatterpoint – Outer Rim Outpost Terrain Pack

Atomic Mass Games provided us with a roadmap for Star Wars Shatterpoint. Among last year's releases were several squad packs and the announcement of four terrain packs. The SWP60 Star Wars: Shatterpoint Outer Rim Outpost Terrain Pack was the first to be released. Having seen teasers at shows last year, I was looking forward to reviewing this one.

The SWP60 Outer Rim Outpost Terrain Pack has an RRP of USD 54.99 and consists of an Outpost Bunker, a few stacked supply crates, and a critter - in this case, a Bogwing on top of a GNK droid -  just like the other terrain packs.

The boxed set comes with a corrugated cardboard inlay to support the packaging. Inside, you will find a large bag containing the sprue and three larger pieces for the bunker, as well as a leaflet.

The leaflet is the only printed material included and provides instructions in English, French and Spanishon how to access the digital downloads of the assembly instructions. As with other packs, there are no rules cards included, so it's purely terrain pieces.

The mid-sized sprue contains the supply crates, the critter and the gun turret for the bunker. The details are captured crisply, with minor mould lines. The bunker's hull is a single piece and the upper level comprises two 'dishes' placed on top of each other.

We will start with the supply crates. This is a simple, straightforward build: we connect the visible stack of crates and add the tarpaulin on top, which is also assembled from two pieces.

Each terrain pack contains a critter, and in this case, it is a damaged GNK droid that was attacked by a Bogwing. These creatures are best known from the TV series The Clone Wars.

The bunker itself is built quickly. The lower part is a single piece, clearly guided by the pins. The upper level is made up of two halves, and once the glue has set, you can file down the seam between them.

The bunker has a turret with a movable gun on top. Compared to some other sculpts within the range, this one feels a bit 'heavy' or less detailed. It looks a bit toy-like, but that's not a big issue as it is terrain. The pack adds three pieces to your terrain collection.

While Shatterpoint is slightly larger than Legion, it still fits both ranges as well as other 28–35 mm sci-fi settings.

Conclusion

The Outer Rim Outpost is cheaper than the other terrain packs at only 54.99 USD (compared to 74.99 USD for larger packs like High Ground or Take Cover). This does mean a slightly reduced amount of content, but it's still reasonable. I am looking forward to the other Outer Rim terrain packs, which have only been mentioned as part of the roadmap and have not yet been previewed. We're currently waiting for a teaser/more information on the following:

  • Outer Rim Market Terrain Pack
  • Outer Rim Droid Trader Terrain Pack
  • Outer Rim Dwelling Terrain Pack

The production quality of this terrain pack is great. They even managed to add a bit of texture to the surface, which, depending on the angle, is not that easy to achieve. This makes drybrushing easier and reduces the time it takes to bring them to the tabletop.

Regarding the price, while the recommended retail price (RRP) is 54.99 USD, prices in EUR are usually cheaper, with offers around the 40 EUR mark, which is very reasonable for a piece of terrain of this size.

  • Production Quality: 4/5
  • Design appeal: 4/5
  • Options / Customization: 3/5
  • Value for money: 4/5
  • Ease of Assembly: 4/5

Star Wars Shatterpoint is a game by Atomic Mass Games and distributed by Asmodee.

The reviewed product item was provided by the manufacturer.
