Salute 2016 – Part III

Among the most prominent wargaming companies is Mantic for sure. The colourful stand was crowded and the deadzone table caught my eye. And then there was this enormous Kings of War battle going on - it was so incredibly huge. Simply insane.

I had a bit of a laugh when i saw the two large booth of Spartan Games, as they tend to call themself a rather small company and went that big at the show with a lot of demo tables. Focus was on the new Halo releases and expansion of the Firestorm universe. They even had some small scale second world war thing, but that was just crazy.

Another thing that i heard quite often around the show was "kickstarter". As if there was no other way to start a game. It makes money, but is unhealthy in a community building way and takes a lot more effort to be really successful and not just generating turnover in a short time frame. But that's a topic for another article. Oh and of course "What is this game about? It's a fast paced skirmish - coming to Kickstarter this summer"

There was White Dragon Miniatures with Shattered Voids and Marine Tactical Unit had some beautiful 15mm miniatures around. The mech walkers are interesting and the style is something new and more unique compared to the other products available in that scale.

If you liked the article in Wargames Illustrated #332 on Mad Max or the coverage at Dave Taylor on that topic, you'll love this table with 1:35 / 1:48 scale vehicles in the post-apocalypse.

Remember Megaton Games? I've met them at Spiel in Essen last year, and they're close to launch their Kickstarter on Armoured Syndicate. You can find my review on El Toro (first picture) here. And of course, they will continue on Mechabrick.

One company and game, i was already aware of was Steamforged Games with Guild Ball. I noticed it was successful, as it attracted a lot of Warmachine / Hordes and other competitive player. But i wasn't aware that they grow so much. Huge stand, lots of staff and visitors. They even had a Dark Souls statue as a teaser for the upcoming Kickstarter at the booth. Have to say, well done guys, well done!

To continue with some more interesting finds, there was a large scale Star Trek skirmish with webcams and it-support going.

Studio McVey was there and had some new painted miniatures with them, and i was surprised to see some really nice artwork at Forge World. But i wasn't brave enough to take a look at the prices.

Crooked Dice was there, i've covered a few of their novelties on my Salute preview, and there was a lot of their range in the middle of the hall on display.

This "Chain of Command" table named "Calvados and Chips" was hosted by the League of Gentlemen Anti-Alchimist. Really nice set up of a second world war table, between Allies and Germans.
