Salute 2018 – Part 2

Let us focus on the gaming tables and participation rounds at Salute in this part of the coverage.

A table, that I was really looking forward to see, was the one by Andy Singleton and Kildaire Paintworks, it is a 20mm / 1:72 World War two Setting in the mediterranean. He documented the different kits shown in the scenario on facebook, showed work in progress on models and terrain. And it was amazing to see, how it all came together at the show. Had a great talk with Andy at the show. Always fun to exchange ideas and have a chat with fellow wargamers.

Next table shown is by Ian Smith & Friends, and won the game award on this years Salute. It is "Glory! From the Halls of Montezuma" and covers the attempt of Union forces to take Charleston by land and sea during the ACW with 40mm miniatures. Most of the terrain shown on this table, especially the fort, was done by David of TMTerrain. He worked on the post apocalypse table for Crooked Dice as well.

The team of Ironfist Publishing, around Warwick Kinrade (former Forge World author), showed the taking of Kasseriene Pass in 1943, using their own Battlegroup rule set.

Warlord Games brought a World War 2 What-if Scenario on the Battle of the Philippine Sea for Blood Red Skies to the show. The huge aircraft carrier was prepared by Darek Wyrozębski of the Warlord Games painters. Amazing use of the center piece and something you could truely only do on a wargaming event, as this would simple be to large for home gaming.

With the support of a local gaming club, Warlord Games brought a Bolt Action "Band of Brothers" scenario from Battle of the Bulge as well.

Modiphius had their compact Fallout: Wasteland Warfare demonstration tables with them, partly already seen at Crisis last year. Fallout is a played as a skirmish in roughly 32mm scale.

One of my favorite wargaming societies, the League of Gentlemen Anti-Alchimists covered the Biscotti War, with Garibaldi's Redshirts trying to save the convent in 1860. The convent is a Grandmanner building that unfortunately is out of production.

Battle of Stäket was hosted by Dalauppror, using the Pikeman's Lament by Osprey Games, to show the 18th century battle of the Great Northern War between Russians and Swedes. More pictures over here: Baggenstaket 1719 on Dalauppror.

At Wild West Exodus, there was this very sci-fi looking game table, using infinity mirrors, to create very impressive looking depth.

Of course, that we're not all of the participation rounds, just the ones that caught my eye. It was a very broad and colourful selection of tables, and the show and the participating clubs offer a high quality of tables not only this year, but the years before. So even if you're not into shopping miniatures, Salute is worth a visit!
