Age of Sigmar – Stormcast Eternals Annihilators

I grabbed these Annihilators as a reinforcement for the Warcry Stormcast Eternals Warband, that I built from the Stormbringer subscription. While I was looking, if I could get the push-fit ones from Dominion, the price of the proper multi-part kit was so close, that I went for the "real deal".

These are like I said, the multi-part not push-fit from Dominion (picture on the left), and you get a box with three sprues, options for having them either wield a two-handed hammer or hammer and shield, along with three round bases and an instruction leaflet including the warscroll. The price of these is 45 EUR RRP, but I managed to pick them up at a sale for 27 EURs.

As we have seen it on some of the Horus Heresy kits, the packaging sports a small faction symbol, in this case the meteor of Sigmar.

The casting is good, the sprues could fit a bit more pieces, but honestly you get everything you need from these sprues. Each body has two options for the weapons, two head options and in addition you have pieces for the Annihilator prime.

The instructions are pretty clear, with numbered parts, you have three different bodies, each with either Hammer and Shield or dual-handed Hammer, along with two head options, along with the further option to build the champion of the unit. Along with the warscroll on the back of the leaflet.

As I intend to use these with Warcry, we're going to build from the regular soldiers one of each. Starting with the base pose, which are build from a pair of legs, front and back plate of the upper body. Next you choose a pair of arms, that either have the hammer and shield or dual handed weapon option.

When building the Prime, you have a different breast plate and leg, both covering the lion design, to show him being the champion of the unit. On top of that, he has a more detailed weapon, but I combined the regular weapon pose with the prime option. On top the shield of the Prime has Sigmar written on it instead of a fantasy design.

Now we have three soldiers and can add the heads. I want the whole re-forged theme to carry on and use as few bare heads as possible, and chose the closed helmets for the trio.

These guys are quite bulky, as you can see not only being much beefier than the Stormcast Eternal Vindicators, but even towering above the Primaris Space Marines and being completely out of scale with the classic Warhammer range.

I only put the shields on without glue, so I can remove them for painting.

Conclusion

I like the models, but 3 for 45 EURs is really stretching it. You're almost paying character prices per regular model and that is just too much. If you can grab them on a discount for ~30 EURs or less, that is more reasonable. An option is the recent Stormcast Eternals Spearhead, with a lot of the Dominion push-fit models, among them three of the other Annihilator sculpts (it's 110 EUR RRP for ~20 models incl. characters and a chariot vs. 45 EUR for 3 models).

Beyond that I can really see these being used as a base for Thunderwarriors or ornate Custodes characters.

Casting and fit were proper on these models. There are some minor gaps, where some of the pieces align, especially on the shoulder pads, which will need some additional attention, but will be an easy fix. I like the aspect, that you have variants regarding the weaponry and options for the heads in this set, as that does not go without saying anymore. But I really would like it, if you had more possibilities regarding different stormhosts, just like you have with the different Space Marine chapters and legions in 40k/30k.
