Deth Wizards – The Stitcher’s Warband Pt 1

I have prepared my Undead Warband (which needs a better project name) for Deth Wizards, and now we can start painting.

The primer was touched up with P3 Thamar Black and the miniatures (with the exception of the Skeletons) got a quick drybrush with Army Painter Matt White.

To get started, or better said in preparation, I made a moodboard with pictures of the painted miniatures, as an orientation where I wanted to go. I usually put them on my smartphone or tablet, so I can look them up while painting, zoom-in and such. I think this is practical.

The ghosts are actually pretty close to tabletop ready, if you just dry brush them. But I won't leave them that way and I will take care of the mould lines that I spotted once drybrushed. I picked up Vallejo Game Color 72028 Dark Green and added a first thin coat, for the deeper parts of the cloak. You can see the result in the group picture.

For the Zombies I went with Army Painter Necrotic Flesh, the Ghouls got Citadel Base Orruk Flesh and the Skeletons were heavily drybrushed with Citadel Base Wraithbone. I went with Wraithbone instead of Matt White or Grey Seer, as I wanted a warmer tone, that would have a subtle beige/brown tone to it.

The larger metal parts were painted in Army Painter Platemail, with the red details on some of the miniatures in Citadel Base Mephiston Red. As the human undead shall reflect parts of my (upcoming) Empire warband, which will be Carroburg, I chose the combination of red and black. I noticed, that I don't really know, how the Outriders are painted (which parts of their armour are metal or leather), and I have to look  that up

I went with the Legacy of a Stitcher in Deth Wizards and the warband above translates into this game wise and would provide me with up to 20+ points, if I went with all of them / more elite units they could represent.

  • Necromancer (Legacy: Stitcher)
  • 1 Wight (Krell - 2 Points, could be used as a Revenant or Death Knight)
  • 4+4 Skeletons (8 Points)
  • 3 Zombies (3 Points)
  • 2 Ghouls (4 Points)
  • 3 Specter (6 Points, could be used as Shadows or Ghost)

Already had a blast handling these miniatures. A good amount of detail, not overloaded and rather easy to paint.

As for the project name, this will be The Stitcher's Warband for now. And the necromant won't be called Heinrich Kemmler, but I looked up names of people who were accused of witchcraft on the German wikipedia. And I stumbled upon Dietrich Flade, from there I got to Simon Reichwein (or Simon Rychwyn of Montabaur) - that is the city right next to where I live, and picked the name Conrad von Senden, and made him the former court physician in Carroburg to Leopold von Bildhofen. After the accusations of witchcraft were made, Conrad was able to elude himself from arrest by fleeing into the Drakwald Forest, but is rumoured to have retreated further east into the Hunger Wood.
