June 2025 review

Half time for 2025! And it is time for a recap of June.

Even with the few holidays and bridging days, it was quite busy. Especially in combination with heat since the mid of the month. My son and I did a trip to the Limes Fortlet and Watchtower in Pohl. You can find the visit on the blog, and it will certainly not be the last trip report you'll see here this year. Looking forward with the kids getting older, to check out some sights like Teutoburger Wald, Niederwalddenkmal and Völkerschlachtdenkmal.

One activity was clearing out my studio. Sorting items and projects that I no longer follow and mostly reducing my terrain collection. Among those items for example is the Pegasus Hobbies Gothic City, of which I have five sets here. I'll publish a trade post on here, with various bundles and lots, as I want to free up space.

While it is currently quite hot, the month began with some serious rain and we had to do something, to keep the kids entertained. And I tought, well let's give World Building a try. There are a lot of tutorials on Youtube, mostly focusing on Pen & Paper RPGs, but they work fine for this purpose. WASD20 has great tutorials and he is focused on the artistic part of it. So we grabbed a large sheet of paper and some beans, let them spill from a few inches and mark the outline for our continents.

Then the kids had to throw some dice. A large one for the number of kingdoms and realms on each continent, and then some dice to see where cities would be.

Each realm got their own flag, which the kids designed and colours and of course, the map itself had to be painted. And certainly no world would be complete without its own flora and fauna. I started drawing under the direction of my son and daughter, and we ended up with a featherless bird with claws and long legs, as well as a three-legged and three-eyed lion, with blue fur, red zebra stripes and a pig tail.

The kids certainly had a blast and my daughter already asked me when we will do it again. This is an activity that gets more entertaining the older the kids get and you can tie it in with other trips, like going to the zoo and collecting ideas for their own animal creations.

A former colleague of mine was in Denmark this month, and while visiting Lego Land in Billund, he brought along the "A Minifigure Tribute 40504", which is a Lego House Exclusive and I wasn't sure if I would make it there myself, before this set goes End-of-Life. By coincidence that day he picked it up, the designer was there and even signed the boxes. Had a blast with it, and was probably my slowest build I've done so far - stretching it for maximum Dopamin release over three days.

Regarding stretching it - yeah, I'm through Eye of Terra. A lot of different stories, of different quality and entertainment, and just started Path of Heaven. I'm coming to the end of the audio books that are currently available in English and will probably add the Primarch series to cover the gap until more translations are released.

As promised, we covered more Asmodee / Atomic Mass Games items this month, with more to come in July.

Published:

In schedule:

  • Marvel Crisis Protocol Inhuman Royal Court
  • Star Wars Legion ARF Trooper Squad
  • Star Wars Shatterpoint Requesting Your Surrender Squad Pack

I managed to squeeze in some progress on my personal projects. I prepared a lot for Turnip28, and had the 3d printer running as I will dismantle the setup in about 5-6 weeks and I have to make sure that I took care of everything I need until then. Mostly spare parts for my retro projects and conversion bits.
