Gaslands – 3d printed items
With the deadline on the access to my 3d printer, I am going through the different project that are in need of attention of 3d printed items. And one of the system that is on that schedule, is Gaslands!
While I do have the cars, the question is - what else do I need? I do have the upgrade sprues that Northstar offers, I have the dice and in terms of core game items, am only missing the tokens and templates.
But beyond that, I need mostly terrain:
- Barriers
- Stacks of Cars (considering just buying a cheap set of Matchbox cars and smashing them in a vice)
- Something to mark the gates / check points
- Pieces to convert the vehicles
If you go through Kickstarter, MyMinifactory, Cults and Thingiverse you'll find a lot of fitting things. Some are "Friends of Gaslands" others are intended to be used for Zombie or Fallout scenarios, but the beauty of STL files is, that you can scale them. And I highly recommend checking them before, as the definition of 28mm scale as a starting point varies a lot, from 1:48 to 1:64 in some cases and for Gaslands 1:64 is a good orientation.
- EC3D Design - Beyond the Badlands
- Kraken 3d Studios - Apocalypse Dawn
- Printable Scenery - Brave New Worlds
- Pharao's Workshop - Benzin Wasteland Grand Prix
- u25 - Fuel World
- Bad Roll Games - Punkokalyptic Wasteland Inhabitants
I prepared some plates and printed a variety of things, that I bought on MMF or Cults. So I printed some tire walls from different creators, giving me a variety of different tires. Yes, you can buy a big bag of tires from SIKU, but they're made from rubber and a pain to paint - you can ask Dino about it.
While I liked the idea of gates, but they are to big for my printer and I didn't fancy the MDF ones, I went a different route. I used these concrete pillars, scaled them down a bit and mirrored the three different poses. I'll colour code the pairs to mark the gates. Compact solution.
In addition to the tire walls, I went with some barricades / fences, that I scaled down to fit Gaslands (about 70%). This only works with unsupported files and make sure that some smaller pieces are still strong enough to fulfill their roles. These sections will be great so divide the race track or create boundaries.
I had some oil barrels by Warlord Games that were simply far to small for 28mm, but work quite well with the Matchbox sets, and added another row of drums as a 3d printed file. I was surprised, that I didn't find anything like this in 20mm/ 1:72 in plastic as you have a lot of this in 1:48 or 1:35 by Tamiya or MiniArt, for incredibly low prices. Yes there are 20mm accessoires, but in resin and not at a price point that you want to use them as fillers on the table, but rather diorama add-ons.
And as I still had some empty space on other print plates, I added these few as fillers and they will add to the collection as well.
Last year I came across these Drift Barriers on the Gaslands facebook group and grabbed a bag of them. While they are currently in use in the kid's room, as an enclosure for various toy animals, these will find their way back into the Gaslands collection and such. But will require a primer or at least a grimming-wash.
This should be sufficient and I am confident that I can put a check on the scatter for Gaslands.
