Warhammer World Championship Preview 2025 – Part 2
After covering the previews for Warhammer 40,000 and Horus Heresy we now move on to the fantastic realms of Warhammer with The Old World and Age of Sigmar ... and the return of Warhammer Quest!
While the Big Summer Preview for Warhammer The Old World, this one picks up the introduction of Grand Cathay from earlier this year and shows an extensive second wave with lots of additional choices for their army.
With the Astromanacers of the Celestial Court more magic is added, in a familiar way with a mounted wizard and on one foot, along with a raven familiar. Both models come with different options.
Within the Batallion Cathay mostly received units for close combat. This is about to change with the Iron Hail Gunners, Crane Gun Team and Peasant Levy with Bows (who have an option for long spears).
As we do not have rules for these units yet, these will be published with the Arcane Journal: The Breaching of the Great Bastion and the new miniatures for Cathay as a Defenders of the Great Bastion Army Reinforcement Set.
For Warhammer Age of Sigmar we get a huge and nasty release for the followers of Nurgle - the Maggotkin of Nurgle, which even reachs out to the new Warhammer Quest Darkwater, but more on that further below.
This new wave of pestilence is build around a new model of Festus the Leechlord. The old miniature was on foot, but now comes back as a higher champion of Nurgle on a colossal slug.
He has gathered a large retinue of various warriors, blessed by father Nurgle, with new units and overhauled older entries. The Sloven Knights are new Chaos Knights, entirely plague themed. The Putrid Blightkings, already a magnificent kit, got an update and a bit larger sculpts to fit the newer Age of Sigmar. And this moves on with Rotswords, mutated Chaos Warriors, as well as new sculpts for the Pestigors.
All the new units and rules are inlcuded in the Chaos Battletome Maggotkin of Nurgle, which covers the warscrolls and such to use Gelgus Pust and other models from Warhammer Quest: Darkwater with Age of Sigmar.
Beyond that, there are two boxed sets from the existing range with the Spearhead: Bubonic Cell (with daemons and mortals) and Regiment of Renown: The Pustules. And a new addition to the narrative games, Path to Glory: Blighted Wilds.
The big reveal for this preview is certainly the Warhammer Quest: Darkwater miniatures boardgame. This will be a release for christmas, with 49 miniatures and picking up the Warhammer Quest series once again, adding to the huge release of Nurgle themed chaos miniatures shown above.
A group of seven heroes (Edmark Valoran, Bren Tylis, Inara Sion, Drolf Ironhead, Kelthannor, Drasher Vorn, and Jacobus Vyne) enters the infested ruins of the Jade Abbey to fight Gelgus Pust.
The villians of this boxed set are the Scions of the Plaguefather; Gelgus Pust, Belga the Cystwitch, Mulgoth the Cleaver, and Shaman Foulhoof.
But there is a lot more in this box than just heroes, so various units of mobs, from low Pox-Wretches, to further Pestigor sculpts, Blight Templars and Cankerborn, will provide different tiers of threat to the heroes.
And interesting way to provide a board is a hardback map book, which can lay flat on the table and proivde lots of different scenarios.
We will cover Warhammer Quest: Darkwater in an upcoming review.
