Szenario Con 2026
The first event of the year for us is Szenario Con 2026! Despite the poor weather conditions, we made it to Hackenheim. We discussed the location in last year's coverage. Nevertheless, no event report would be complete without a shot of the car park.
As usual, the event was hosted at the Bonnheimer Hof in the Palatinate region, near Bad Kreuznach.
Digital ticket booking was used to manage the available space and keep track of the number of people coming to SzenarioCon.
As in previous years, there were painting workshops and artists in the gallery. These were hosted by Phantasos Studios and featured exhibits by artists such as The Red Hut and HvM Workbench.
Below are some photos from the event.
One of the tables I was looking for today was the Return to Castle Wulfenheim scenario, which was hosted by Wraith and used the Konflikt 47 ruleset.
Winter 1947: Allied special forces penetrate deep into the Palatinate Forest to the secret imperial castle ‘Wulfenheim’, where, according to secret service reports, the German scientist ‘Dr. von Hackenheim’ is conducting occult experiments. Destroying this research could have a decisive influence on the outcome of the war in Europe.
Ad Arma, well known for their historical hosted tables as well as their own convention, gave an introduction to Color & Line – Rebel Yell, which covered the American Civil War.
Another of the many historic tables was Osprey's Rebels & Patriots, which covered 250 years of independence.
In 1776, the citizens of the New World declared their independence from the English Crown.
The Americans sought allies for their fight against the British, including the Native Americans. But so did the British...
The Liberation of Munitorum IV used a lot of Warhammer 40k miniatures, but the One Page Rules – Grimdark Future ruleset.
For many decades, Zephalon III has suffered under the orcs and their raids. For several years now, the macropolis has been forced to pay tribute to the orcs, whose demands are becoming ever greater. But the Empire has heard the cries for help from the oppressed. It is sending troops to fight for freedom and throw off the orcish yoke.
The fighting is most fierce in the old administrative district around the war-torn Munitorum IV administration building. But the Emperor's troops seem to have more than just the liberation of the population in mind...
Oliver from the German Wasteland Warfare community hosted Fallout Wasteland Warfare, a game I enjoyed very much last year! This time, they moved the game into the vault with a multiplayer scenario.
Maximus the Ghoul, Lucy, and her faithful companion CX404 roam the wasteland on a dangerous mission. On behalf of the NCR, they are searching for the United States Declaration of Independence – an ancient symbol of freedom and self-determination.
But the land is contaminated, full of mutants, predators, and deadly radiation. Only by working together can they find the relic of the old world in time. The clock is ticking – and the wasteland does not tolerate mistakes.
With the support of the extended Freebooter Miniatures staff, you could see the novelties for Freebooters Fate and Ascending Fate, along with an interesting illuminated table for their sci-fi skirmisher.
This was the first of what we hope will be many events this year. You can find a list of the other dates we have scheduled this year.
Regarding the event, the organisers addressed the issue of the programme being announced quite late. This was due to technical difficulties, which are unavoidable. Personally, I don't consider this to be a deal breaker, as I only use the programme as a point of orientation and am open to trying out games that appeal to me.
The table layout made the hall feel more crowded this year, even with the capped visitor amount. This made it difficult to fully appreciate some of the impressive boards on display. Leaving a bit more space between tables would make future events much more comfortable. While I was simply taking a look at one of the tables, people were pushing through the narrow passages between tables, bumping into me while I was taking pictures. Combined with the noise level, this didn't create the circumstances I like for playing a game. Last year, I also had some difficulty following the hosts' instructions, and due to the event not having access to the cellar and/or side room this year, everything was placed in the main room of the venue.
It’s worth noting that the convention remains completely free to attend, which is a rare and generous feature that deserves appreciation. Visitors only need to invest their time (and perhaps buy a meal or some drinks), thanks to the organisers' and venue's hospitality.
My thanks again go to Jürgen and Frank for continuing to make SzenarioCon possible each year.
