Dino’s Miscellaneous 2026 – Part 2

About two weeks ago, I told you about the projects I currently have on my table that are sure to take shape in the near future. Well, in the meantime, good old Robert from Wolpertinger Miniatures put me to the test, he still needed ten zombies for the Rhein Main Multiverse, which was still in the works at the time. Anyone who's familiar with my work knows that ten miniatures in two weeks is a huge undertaking for me. On top of that, I still had to finish the Rhapsode for Mortal Gods, since the new Theban army was set to be presented.

So, let me just say right off the bat, yes, I've finished the Rhapsode:

At first, I wasn't sure whether to paint the cape red or brown, but after a few mini brainstorming sessions during painting sessions on Discord, I decided to go with a neutral shade of green, and I'm happy with the result.

As you can see, the zombies were prepared quickly as well, though I did try using different primers on them this time. The reason is that Corax White from Games Workshop is no longer available, but this off-white color worked wonderfully as a base coat for the zombies. The finish was also a nice, even layer when sprayed, without drowning any details.

Another problem I ran into was that the classic Ogryn Flesh Wash, a shade that leans a little more toward red, is no longer available. Fortunately, I was able to emulate this color quite well by mixing equal parts Flesh Wash from Two Thin Coats and Vallejo Game Wash.

I applied a relatively thin layer over the model’s entire skin surface and then washed it once more with diluted Baal Red and Purple Ink. I followed an old recipe to the letter that I had once used for Frostgrave zombies. The finishing touch for the skin is a subtle highlight with White. This requires a bit of brush control. The thinner you want the line to be, the less pressure you apply to the tip. This is a simple method for “faking” feathered highlights.

Over the course of three or four evenings, I added some details to the cloth, which went fairly good. Now I'm thinking about painting the rest of the zombies I have here, while I still have the momentum.
