Warhammer Age of Sigmar Malign Sorcery

With the second edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar the magic "came back" to Warhammer. With Malign Sorcery Games Workshop released the first full magic supplement for Age of Sigmar and the latest since the 4th/5th edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. Let me show you the contents of this box in this unboxing review.

Malign Sorcery was released along the Soul Wars and is 60 EUR. The box is rather huge, as you can see from the comparison to a Primaris Space Marine. Inside the huge card board box is a sealed bag, which contains the sprues, the rule set for Malign Sorcery, the assembly instructions and the magic cards.

A Warhammer store on my doorstep

Earlier this year I saw an unexpected advertisment by Warhammer Recruiting on my facebook feed. They are looking for a Store Manager in Koblenz. Wait a minute? Koblenz? That's my (former) home town. That would mean ... that can't be ... a "real" Warhammer Store right on my doorstep?

I've lived in Koblenz, the beautiful city at Rhine and Mosel, for 7 years and if you would have told me, we would get a Games Workshop store in our city, I'd laughed and said no way. But on August 4th Warhammer Koblenz will open up. A bit strange feeling for me, the last time I've been to a Games Workshop Store Opening was almost 20 years ago. That was the Games Workshop in Darmstadt on June 26th 1999! I was there with my oldest friend, with whom I started wargaming back in the day.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Shattered Dominion Objectives

Usually Christmas or the turn of the year is the time for terrain with Games Workshop. But with the new Age of Sigmar edition just released there is a new set of objective markers available, the Shattered Dominion Objectives.

Of the new terrain sets, many have their own rules of how they affect the game play and benefit a certain faction (you remember the Shipwreck I covered earlier on this blog). Yes, this is technically terrain, but not really, they have names but no special rules (but hey, nobody is forcing you to not use your own house rules to change that). I am really interested in this - as it is a fantasy set - that will make good use with a broad variety of fantasy rules. So let's see in this review what is in the box.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire – Ironskull’s Boyz

Where there is chaos and destruction, Orruks cannot be far away. Somewhat close to the Khorne Bloodbound warbands (Reavers and Fiends) in their intention / motivation, we see what separates the Green from the Red, in this review on the Shadespire warband of Ironskull's Boyz.

Earlier this week, I started the coverage on the Shadespire warbands with the Sepulchral Guard.

Ironskull's Boyz is a 4 Orruk strong warband expansion for Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire and costs 22.50 EUR. It comes with the pre-coloured two sprues (in matching orcish green!), a card deck and brief instructions on the assembly.

Oathmark Elf Infantry

Further plastic kits were introduced for the new Oathmark - Battles of the Lost Age system by Osprey Games and North Star Miniatures, among them new Elven.

I was able to get my hands on a single sprue for this review, of which 6 are in the complete box with 30 Miniatures in 28mm scale. The price is set at 25 GBP. As you can see, each sprue contains options for spearmen, regular soldiers with hand weapon and shield or archers. And additional pieces for standard bearers and officers. In the box are 30 plastic 25mm square bases by Renedra as well.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire – Sepulchral Guard

In addition to the starter box for Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire, I'll cover the expansion boxes for the warbands in sets of two. This week it will be the Sepulchral Guard and Ironskull's Boyz.

I actually bought this warband box before I even got the starter box. It was the starting point of a fantasy warband, in combination with the Deathrattle boxed set. Now you can buy the Sepulchral Guard without the Shadespire content as an easy-to-build kit as well.

But let's get back to this warband review. Games Workshop offers these expansions for 22.50 EUR each (20 EUR without the Underworlds cards) and the Sepulchral Guard is the largest warband of the first wave expansion with 7 miniatures.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire

Just before the next edition of Age of Sigmar will be released, I want to take a closer look in this review on one of the "introduction" games to the Warhammer World, Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire.

Games Workshop - Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire Games Workshop - Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire

Games Workshop released Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire last year in 2017, as a tactical miniature board game, at a lower entry point, much smaller in size and number of miniatures as for example Warhammer Quest: Silvertower. Shadespire is played in an ancient and damned city, between the realms of Light and Shadow, in the new post-Old World Warhammer Setting, as an "arena game" using two hex field boards with matches taking around 30-45 minutes. Everything you need for your games is included, with the push fit (means no glue needed) pre-colored plastic models and you only need a cutter to prepare the game.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Etheric Vortex Gloomtide Shipwreck

As part of the release of the Idoneth Deepkin, Games Workshop presents a new scenery item, the Etheric Vortex Gloomtide Shipwreck. This goes along with the new idea, to pair a matching terrain piece for each of the Age of Sigmar factions. In this review I'd like to share with you my experience on unboxing and building the Gloomtide Shipwreck.

The Gloomtide Shipwreck comes in a medium sized box, that is similar to the one used for other terrain kits, like the Ryza Pattern Ruins or Azyrite Ruins. It is priced at 25 GBP / 32.50 EUR / 40 USD.

Mantic Games Studio 2018

As mentioned earlier, we combined Salute in London with a day trip to Nottingham. First stop on friday morning was Mantic Studio. As with the Warhammer World, this wasn't the first time visiting Mantic. It was quite impressive to see, how Mantic has grown over the years.

Mantic Games Studio 2018

My first visit at Mantics was 2010, back then Ronnie and his crew was located at "Mantic Towers" with roughly the space that the new front area covers. 2013, for the first Warlord Games Day, I was the second time at Mantics. They already moved to the outskirds of Nottingham then, and moved from an apartment to an independend office building with enclosed warehouse. Now Mantic has moved again, into an even larger office building, roughly twice the old building, covering a front desk with visitors area, multiple studio offices, production facilities and a warehouse.

In the front is a gaming area, with couple of tables and a front desk. Several games from the Mantic range were displayed, including the board games. On the front desk was a loose assembly of the new and upcoming terrain crates, along with announcements to the new Hellboy Kickstarter.

Salute 2018 Haul

The concluding post to our Operation Sealion 2018, the haul, the loot, the gathered goodies and shiny stuff made from metal, plastic and resin. If you're going by plane, make sure to have enough empty space in your luggage to cope with your buying. As mentioned before, I was quite happy about the shipping services of some of the companies (and that is the reason, why this post was postponed in comparison with the other coverage, as I was waiting for the remaining miniatures and kit to arrive).

But let's begin, this pile of boxes and blister is my yield of our trip to Nottingham and Salute. Let us begin with the main event, the Salute 2018. The South London Warlords did once again a great job with the show, and I made sure to get my hands on the 1918 memory event exclusive vignette, sculpted by Perry Miniatures. It shows a trio of Soldiers from World War one, a french, a british and a german soldier. The always have further souvenirs at their booth, so I made sure to grab two sets of dices (with a poppy on the six), a badge and a copy of last years female russian standard bearer miniature.
