Salute 2018 Aftermath

After having a pint or two next to ExCel at Fox, we headed to Borough Market. Imagine an urban district dedicated to food, food of all kinds, that's Borough Market.

You can buy any kind of meat, vegetables and dishes there. From german sausages, over australian meat, to South American dishes, all kinds of different flavours and smells. Just amazing. The market is open every day between 10 and 17, so we used the last hour and a half to grab a couple of things to eat.

After a rich round, to get some what of an idea, what was offered, we stopped for hand made salt beef bagels. Unfortunately they ran out of bagels, so we got our meat on rolls. Amazing horse radish mustard and pickles.

Next stop for more sandwiches at this cheese store. You could grab a bowl of potatos with a rich portion of cheese on it, or with these hearty cheese sandwiches. Imagine a Tarte flambée in between two slices of farmer's bread.

And last round of meat was at Portena, with empanadas and an argentinian steak sandwich, with chimichurri. What can I say? Damn delicious!

So there we were. Our bags filled with miniatures, our stomachs with a solid base for some liquid bread. So we met with a couple of friends at The Rake. Broad selection of craft beers, not quite cheap (average about 9 quid per pint) and some very colourful drinks on tab. We introduced our british friends to Schlenkerla smoke beer (with quite irritated faces as a result), and they brought along some very unfiltered drinks and some exotic tastes along marshmallows and plum.

As this wasn't exotic enough, we needed a proper load of crazyness for the evening, so our locals recommended a german Bierkeller called Katzenjammers. If your first impression is not "quite weird", wait for the music to begin. HosenBrass does polka covers of several musical hits.

With around an hour back to Cambridge, we grabbed one of the last trains, said goodbye to our fellowship and looked forward to empty out our bags at the home table, to get a first glimpse of our haul.

What can I say? Oh, what a day! Miniatures, food, drinks, all on high level. Quite a lot to diggest, in every possible way. So much fun, that I am really looking forward for the next time. We have a social hobby, and if you're travelling make the most of it. Don't just focus on the gaming, combine it with other social aspects, it really enhances the experience.
