Deth Wizards – The Town Part 2

The buildings are dry and I started painting them, from the inside out. I wanted something, that looked a bit like the old Warhammer buildings from the battle reports.

On Facebook I came across this Mordheim City Board by MSTerrainLab and it captures pretty much, in a grimmer way, where I want to go with this. Yellow-beige walls, blue-ish roofs and a gray-ish highlight.

So I let my painting apprentice join me and we started to paint the buildings. I did the yellow, she did the roofs and later on started with the grey furnaces.

This far it was quite a lot of work already, lots of surfaces, but the pain should come later with the timbering.

I used mostly Marabu paints, that I bought some via amazon and others from the art weeks in LIDL, they had a decent price and for terrain building it is a cheap option.

Coverage over all is okay, I don't mind the thicker paint on some parts, as it helps covering up the printing steps.

Once I started painting brown for the wooden elements of the timbering and outer scatter, I noticed that while they look cool, I don't really think that the designer ever painted one of his buildings. Some areas are simply not reachable by brush, and the scatter that is placed around leaves small gaps towards the wall, where you either paint the crates in the colour of the wall or paint the walls in brown. I'll try to black line these areas and just drown them in wash later and create a painted "shadow".

To get a better understanding on how much terrain I would actually need for the table, I used a warcry gaming board (which is the same size as the Deth Wizards setup of 30 x 22 inches) and placed some terrain on it. The Inn itself would simple fill the table by itself, but the seven houses / ruins overcrowd the table as well, especially as we don't even have scatter terrain used inbetween so far. This means, while I would put them to use with Mordheim or larger games, for Deth Wizards about 4 buildings and some scatter should be sufficient.

This means the hard scope for the CONflict and the easter weeks are four buildings, scatter and one warband, everything else is bonus.
