July 2025 review
Now that we have entered the third quarter of this year, let's take a quick look back at July. July saw some major events.
Unfortunately, the German Stormbringer subscription has come to an end. Thank you again to Hachette for supplying us with the issues for our coverage. We enjoyed writing about it and giving it a try.
However, we won't be covering Combat Patrol here. This is not because it is not an interesting magazine, but because a lot of the content has already been covered here, especially with the extensive Warhammer 40,000 Leviathan coverage. As the German edition is published after the international one, there is little novelty value from a content creator's point of view, and we would be referring our readers to articles we published in 2023.
One thing that really excited me was the Big Summer Preview 2025 by Games Workshop. There were amazing teasers for a lot of interesting upcoming army projects. While the reimagined Chaos Dwarfs for Age of Sigmar certainly look stunning, I am really looking forward to the Legions Imperialis novelties in the coming months. This is reason enough to revisit some articles in preparation and check if there are any gaps in our review coverage. For example, we haven't reviewed the Land Raider or Spartans yet.
I revisited Blood Bowl this month, providing an overview of the initial Fantasy Football stock from the core game of the third and fourth editions, and I will contribute to this with a Death Zone supplement article in August.
Time is running out for the 3D printer. I added some smaller items to my Battlefleet project and a lot of scatter terrain for Gaslands and Necromunda (an article on this will be published soon).
One of the larger printing projects of recent weeks was another Warmaster army, which I couldn't write about as it was a birthday present for Indi.Yeeha! When we first started playing wargames, the 4th edition of Warhammer Fantasy was one of his first boxes, and he had lots of High Elves. So, I printed a proper army of Forest Dragon Noble Elves and created a similar packaging to the old army boxes from the mid-90s.
Do you remember that I painted a Woom Bike 3 purple with Plasti-Dip for Christmas 2023? Well, that bike is going to be replaced with a KuBike, and my younger son will take over Woom 3. We have "restored" it back to its original "Lightning McQueen" red colour. I just wanted to give you a heads up that Plasti-Dip is easier to remove if you heat it up a bit. For the smaller remaining bits or those in the nooks and crannies, I highly recommend WD-40 and a toothpick!
I stocked up on a few Lego boxes for my birthday and Christmas. I pick these up when they reach a discount of 35% or more (I use BrickMerge with a price alarm) and I'm looking forward to the Volvo Wheel Loader 42209 and the Onyx Cinder 75374. I built the Rebel U-Wing 75399 last weekend as a present to myself for a special anniversary. I own most of the Star Wars battleships in minifigure scale from the post-Clone Wars era of the last five years, but I would love an update to the Y-wing, A-wing and snowspeeder.
Turning back to wargaming, I finalised the Asmodee review series with the remaining three kits from that shipment.
- Marvel Crisis Protocol Inhuman Royal Court
- Star Wars Legion ARF Trooper Squad
- Star Wars Shatterpoint Requesting Your Surrender Squad Pack
Expect some trees from Archon Studio and Citadel in the upcoming reviews.
