Warhammer Underworlds Organised Play 2018

When I published the reviews on the first season of Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire and the second season Nightvault, I already mentioned that Games Workshop strongly supports the rule set with their own website, lot of content and event support. Among this content, there are organised play sets.

I've seen some people that have participated in larger events, posted their haul on facebook or gaming groups. But you do not need to participate in a Grand Clash (the large Underworlds tournaments) to be able to get your hands on some of the special material covered in the organised play sets.

The organised play boxes are prize support for instore events, so to get your hands on them, it is best to ask your local store owner (either Warhammer store or FLGS). They can get in touch with their Games Workshop Sales Rep and take care of the rest.

Usually the content is spread across the participants of a tournament. The set covers a suggestion how to distribute the prizes among the Underworld players.

There are were multiple sets of the organised play sets released in 2018, covering the Underworld "waves" matching the releases within them. So what I'll show you below is just an excerpt of the available prizes.

Among the most desired parts of the play sets, are the alternative artwork fighter cards. They are marked with a little P on the upper right, for "Promotion". The artwork on the front is the same, but has a different coloured background, the inspired side has the alternative, more epic artwork.  As this play set is from early 2018, it covers the two warbands of the starter kit, Steelhearts Champions and Garrek's Reavers. In other sets for the support of Shadespire, were alternative cards for the other warbands, like Spiteclaw's Swarm or the Sepulchral Guard.

Beyond that, some of the kits covered power and objective cards with alternate artwork. The early packs covered a special deck box as well.

Tokens are part of the prize support as well. There are activation markers, fitting the warbands covered with the alternative artwork cards. As for the wound marker, they are upgraded to acryl tokens with this kit. There are move & charge tokens as well, that were upgraded to acryl tokens as well.

The main prize of this kit for the tournament winner is the shadeglass trophy. It is engraved with the title Champion of the Mirrored City. A really fitting prize for the Underworld setting.

I really like aspect, that Games Workshop supports one of their games so accessible. For Warhammer you would usually have to participate in a Throne of Skulls or Grand Tournament, to have the chance on one of the trophies.

As mentioned above, the presented items are available as event / tournament support through store events. So if you would like to have the chance to earn some of them, get in touch with your local shop owner. In case you are not aware of any stores near you, you can take a look at the store finder.

I'll see, if I can show you the new organised play set for the Nightvault season 2019. So stay around and come by again.

Warhammer Underworlds is a brand by Games Workshop.

The reviewed product item was provided by the manufacturer.

  1. Just a friendly tip: they’re priZes, not priCes. A price is something you pay, a prize is something you win.
    Thanks for the great article.

  2. My bad, in German it is the same word for both ‘Preis’, no difference. But i’ll fix that this evening. Thanks for the feedback.

  3. Dennis actually spoke in “orc”. Da bestest prizs iz if it`s shiny 😉
