Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 68 to 73

The penultimate delivery for Stormbringer arrived last week! Including the premium bonus content. Amazing as this subscription started last year in January and it was surely a long run.

In todays unboxing we're covering the issues 68 to 73, with miniatures, terrain and some paints, but more on that further below.

The overview on the issues so far can be found over here, along with the detailed unboxings of older shipments as well:

The shipment was split due to logistic issues, and that could have been due to the contents of issue 73 which were updated during the run. As usual we get the printed parts in a single block, and two add ins, as they are foldable come as separate prints.

But let us start right away with Issue #68, from May 7th.  It comes with the Megaboss from the Orruk Warclans.

The miniature is split across two sprues and comes with a massive 60mm round base. And at 10,99 EUR for a 35 EUR character pack, we have a very solid discount.

Within the magazine - without surprises - we get the assembly, painting and stat information on the Megaboss, along with some introduction on the Orruk units themself.

In the next issue, #69 from May 14th, we get the Realmscape Domicile Shell.

"Unfortunately" it is the same sprue as in issue 55. Why unfortunately, there are two designs in the Realmscape Terrain range and they didn't went with A / B for this run, but put the same sprue in both issues. We build the Realmscape Domicile Shell on this blog, well the one sprue we had along with further matching designs from the Skaventide starter set.

Putting a real RRP on this is a bit tricky, as it was part of the old dominion starter sets and various expansions. But this single sprue would probably be around 20-25 EURs, so the savings again are quite decent as the get at least 50% off.

As we already got the information on the assembly in the older issue, this magazine covers other topics, like the Fyreslayers and painting detailed terrain features.

In Issue #70 from May 21th, we get the Ironskulls Boyz.

This is the last of the Underworld Warbands in this run. Regarding the savings, it depends a bit what we take for comparison. The miniatures were available as a easy-to-build stand-alone without the cards for 20 EUR back then, but an Underworld warband is nowadays 35 EURs. Regardless, the 10,99 EUR for the magazine provide you with a proper discount.

We already did a review of them back in the day, when they were released for the first time in 2018. It is the same sprue just not tinted green.

In the magazine you see lore on Nagash and the usualy hobby information this small unit. It is interesting to see the different paint jobs, one in the classic yellow and the other one rather orange-toned.

As mentioned above, in this run we have paints with Issue #71.

Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 71 Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 71

In those magazine with paints, we often have negative savings and this is the case here again. Coelia Greenshade (shade) at 6,30 EUR and Knight-Questor Flesh (layer) at 3,60 EUR are 9,90 EUR in RRP compared to the 10,99 EUR for the magazine. But that evens out over the run as usual.  These are the last paints we receive in the subscription.

The hobby magazine covers Skaven lore along with some advanced painting techniques.

We get another character in Issue #72 - Lord-Commander Bastian Carthalos.

Just like the Orruk Megaboss Bastian has a 35 EUR RRP. He is spread across two sprues and comes with a 50mm round base. Proper saving and convincing power pose.

Please note that the assembly instructions on Bastian Carthalos only show one of the poses he can be build, the alternate pose can be found on reddit.

A bit surprise is the content of Issue #73, as we do get 'Ardboys but the 2023 models!

Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 73 Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 73 'ArdboysAge of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 73 'Ardboys

In the initital promotion of Stormbringer we saw a unit of 5 of the classic Black Orc warriors, which were re-released for The Old World. But Hachette managed to get us an upgrade and we do not only get twice the amount of miniatures but the new poses as well. This racks up the value of this issue to 51,25 € and that is a massive saving for 10,99 EUR.

That is three full sprues of Orruk 'Ardboys with lots and lots of pieces..

The Dankhold Troggoth comes in two larger sprues and a 62,50 EUR and a 60mm round base (yeah, that is the same as the Megaboss - but he is much, much taller).

As you can see there are a lot of optional parts in here, as you can build him as a Troggboss as well, so please look up the extended instructions and not just the ones covered on the magazine pages.

These ahave tons of optoins and spare bits. So do not limit yourself to building them the way the Stormbringer magazine covers, look for the Age of Sigmar instructions with more detail. If you are handy with green stuff or have access to a 3d printer, you can actually build a lot more than just 3 Troggoths from this kit.

With around 190 EURs face value we have a very good price for the six issues of Age of Sigmar Stormbringer that set us back 65,94 EUR. The premium upgrade of 12 EURs for these (plus the costs since issue 55 ~26 EUR), give us access to another 113,75 EUR of miniatures.

We have the option for a Dark Elf Assassin in the last shipment and a preview on the remaining run, with another terrain piece (we already had in issue 65 - the Guardian Idol) and the Orruk Warchanter. The issues beyond that will provide us with some bangers, as we get the dragon riders and another Kruleboyz mounted character.
