October 2025 review
I went on holiday in October and had a great time with my family in southern Bavaria.
We spent a few days in Munich, before moving further south to take day trips into the mountains and to various towns and smaller cities.
I took the Krydrufi Art Box with me so that I could do some painting and make some progress on the classic Necrons for Warhammer 40k.
During our trip, I visited several hobby stores. The first was Warhammer Munich, which had nice ceiling decorations featuring multiple drop pods, as well as an ongoing Armies on Parade competition and multiple armies on display.
My second stop was Radaddel, which I wrote about in a separate article. It's an impressive store with lots of tables and a vast range of products. Highly recommended!
My third stop came as a surprise: while we were in Landsberg, I went to Countdown, which runs an escape room. I expected to find a few shelves with Warhammer products, but they had a huge selection of board games, as well as quite a lot of different tabletop games by Warlord Games and Asmodee.
However, I kept my purchases to a reasonable size: a plush Blood Bowl ball from the Warhammer store in Munich and the printed Liber Strategia (along with two store dice) from Radaddel.
The final part of our trip was a surprise visit to Legoland Germany for the kids. The last time I was at Legoland was in 1993 in Billund, so quite a while ago! We had off-season tickets and were quite lucky with the weather, so it was certainly worth it, and the kids had a blast!
While I didn't get what I came for — the Gingerbread AT-AT and large Santa Claus were both out of stock, even at the Lego store in Munich — this is my Legoland loot. The two Lego sets are exclusive to Legoland and I was surprised that they were still in stock, as they are from 2019 (40347 Driving School) and 2024 (40710 Pirate Splash Battle). They even had the large 2019 40346 Lego Park set, but I tried to be reasonable.
As I mentioned last month, I upgraded my camera equipment. I stayed with Canon, but after 13 years, I swapped my EOS 750D for an EOS R8 and moved from APS-C to full frame. I also switched to mirrorless as this is the next step. I had it with me on holiday and took some of the latest reviews with the new setup. I'm amazed by the sharper details and improved autofocus.
However, it handles quite differently and I need to spend more time getting acquainted with the R-series to get the most out of it.
While preparing for next year, I bought some discounted Gale Force Nine Gothic Sector terrain at Battlefield Berlin. These come prepainted, but they won't stay green as they are intended for my Imperial Fists.
This month, we also published some reviews, and the highlights were:
I am looking forward to November, when we're going to the Paint Meetup in Lützensommern again. Unfortunately, we're going to have to skip Crisis due to scheduling issues.
There will be some Star Wars coverage next month, as well as reviews of the backlog of Stormbringer issues. And there will be some surprises – stay tuned!
