Blood Bowl – Averland Hawks Part 3
After introducing the second lineman of the Averland Hawks last time, I continue today with the final one of the brave gentlemen at the center of the pitch.
Derek Jørgensøn
Even if a dwarf would never admit it, their people are close to humans. However, there are some popular exceptions where a dwarf is happy to admit to being friends with a human, such as Derek Jørgensøn. The former inventor has many ties to the Machinists' Guild and enjoys a good reputation there. Together with the dwarf Rae Crowson, is also developing training equipment for Blood Bowl players when he is not playing himself.
Blood Bowl – Averland Hawks Part 2
Every team needs a few tough guys who can not only dish it out, but also take a few hits. Accordingly, today you get to see the second line player of the Averland Hawks, Yohann Schmied. He is based on an RPG character created by TTW forum user Deadly Dub, alias Hannes.
Yohann Schmied
The child of an Ostlander and a Norscan woman, Yohann grew up on the coast of Ostland in very rough conditions. He dreamed of one day following in his father's footsteps and taking over his forge, but spent far too much time in the taverns, where he often got into brawls along with his friends. It was during one such brawl that he caught the eye of one of the many Blood Bowl talent scouts. Still devoted to the craft of blacksmithing, Yohann now forges and maintains his own equipment for each match.

As you can see, I've revamped my community project a bit and it's no longer titled Blood Bowl Community Team. But don't worry, the premise remains the same - I'll be immortalizing particularly active members of the community, or those who have simply been an enrichment to my personal hobby. I will tell the teams story bit by bit over the course of the project, based on the player descriptions as well as some of the games I have played. But I won't keep you waiting any longer. Here comes the first player!
Dierk von Evilstein
The name Evilstein evokes a certain awe in many players and fans. The efficiency of Engel von Evilstein’s weapons was only surpassed by the explosiveness of his loins, and so it's not surprising that wherever he competed in matches...he liked to deepen the relationship with his fans after the games.
It is not known how many offspring Engel has ultimately fathered. But Dierk “Judge” von Evilstein is in no way inferior to his father’s reputation on the pitch, despite his rather friendly nature. Only off the field does he show far more decency than his father did.
WarCry – Gloomspite Gitz Part 3
I've been busy and am doing my best to have the warband painted by the end of the month. Not at least because I want to play a few games with it on the weekend of the Maltreff 2024. As I already knew the setup of my warband, it was just a matter of dividing it up into easy-to-paint chunks. I always find it difficult to paint several minis at the same time, as I paint the same colors for too long and quickly get bored. This is particularly the case with large models.
So I started with an easier task, the archers. I built one from the regiment box and the other from the Zarbag's Gitz box. I will paint this Underworlds warband completely at some point, as the models are really nice.
Victrix – Ancient Greek Hoplites
At the beginning of the year, Victrix Miniatures released new Greek Hoplites (VXA050) as a plastic kit. Although the previous version is still available, it is also one of Victrix's oldest kits.
As typical for Victrix, the minis come in a larger plastic bag. The bag contains 48 Hoplites, consisting of six different bodies that can be combined with pairs of arms with spears or swords. 15 arms are armed with spears, seven with a sword.

Last time I showed two Gloomspite Gitz with spears that I can most likely use somehow in any lineup. This time it's the Loonboss's turn.
A visit to…Games `n Dice Düsseldorf e.V.
Last June, I had the pleasure of being a guest at the Games 'n Dice hobby club. This name will not be entirely unfamiliar to some, as the podcast of the same name was created directly by the club members, Gregor and Benni to be precise, with whom I recorded a system introduction to Mortal Gods. Beside that, Dennis visited the club back in 2019 for the Historical Demo Day and covered the visit on here as well.
This was also the reason for an invitation to the clubs Open Sunday in Düsseldorf to play a demo game there too.
Games'n Dice e.V. was originally formed in 2010 from the community of Warmachine and Flames of War players. Of course, the focus was not limited to these two games, but at the time they formed those were the core systems. The basic idea behind founding a club was to have a fixed structure and a legally secure roof for events. The Drachental store has always been the home of Games 'n Dice. In addition to the Open Sunday, which only takes place every other weekend, there is also a hobby meeting every Wednesday evening.
The great strength of Games'n Dice is its great variety and openness to different systems. Club President Benjamin (not our Podcast Benni) answers the question "What do you play?" with "What don't we play?". Even though attention is often paid to current trends, there are also many players who turn to the "classics" from time to time and start a Necromunda campaign or like to meet up for a game of Infinity or FoW V3.
The Drachental store offers some very spacious premises for tabletop and board game enthusiasts. I really liked the store section, as you quickly get the feeling of a general store - you'll find the usual products from major manufacturers, but also some exotic items that aren't in the mainstream spotlight. The selection of board games is also wide enough to offer something for those who are not interested in tabletop games.
WarCry – Gloomspite Gitz Part 1
It's been a while since I tried my hand at a WarCry project. I've actually had several attempts, but I always ran out of steam halfway through, which was partly due to the constellation of the warbands I chose.
Since we arranged a cooperation with Stormbringer magazine, which is distributed by Hachette, at the beginning of the year, the idea of using the contents to set up a WarCry warband or two came up at the same time.
The other side of the Con
The Chaosbunker had a historic moment at CONflict Rheinland, where Dennis and I each gave demo games for the first time. In my case, it was the historical game Mortal Gods.
My first event on the other side of the demo table was a good experience. I think that has to do with the fact that I went into the demo day with a good concept and I want to share it. This article is therefore very text-heavy - you've been warned.
What should be shown?
Before I even actively made the first preparations for the demo, I had a few basic thoughts about the game itself. Every game has a few characteristics that will distinguish it from others and that should be reflected in a qualitative way. I came up with the following points:
- Historical setting, Greece
- Simple mechanics, yet strategic
- Easily accessible and available
Setting
It was clear to me that I had to show a credible historical context in the demo. Mortal Gods is set in the Peloponnesian War, which I solved by painting the armies differently. One side represented the city-state of Thebes (allied with Sparta), the other Plataiai (allied with Athens). This served history well enough.
In general, you can paint ancient Greeks however you like, because there was no uniform back then. In the spirit of the demo, however, I gave both armies a uniform main color.
Mortal Gods – The other Hades Zealots
Having already shown the first three Zealots painted in the review of the Hades Zealots, the next three are now to follow. While the first group looks a little more civilized, the second group gives a rather tough impression, as if it wasn't the first time that they had already taken up arms.
As previously mentioned, I had to replace the axe on the Zealot with a dagger, as the gluing point and the axe handle were simply too small to reattach the original. However, this does not harm the mini itself for the time being, as the look is not changed too much.
