Diorama photography and scenic backdrops

I really like scenic pictures of miniatures and battle scenes. They capture the stories of the scenarios we play so well. One great example are the motives on the Calendar by Stronghold Terrain they released as part of the German translation of the rulebook.

Warhammer 40.000 Killzone: Sector Mechanicus

As supplements for the Kill Team Starter kit Games Workshop released a series of specific Killzone Environments. These kits are bundles of already available terrain kits with added content for the Kill Team rule set at greatly reduced price.

In this unboxing and build review, I continue with the terrain kits after the Sector Imperialis Basilicanum and move forward to the Killzone: Sector Mechanicus.

For 65 EUR we receive a huge and heavy box, with a lot (and I mean it, a lot!) of sprues. I had to add the comparison with the Primaris Space Marine so you get a feeling for that huge stack of frames you get for that money. But that is not all, as mentioned above, this is not simply a discounted terrain bundle, this is a Kill Team Killzone supplement, covering a double sided thick card board gaming mat and additional gaming material, like an environment chart for the Sector Mechanicus, 4 new scenarios using the terrain from this kit and 12 new tactic cards.

Warhammer 40.000 Sector Imperialis Basilicanum

In this really long and big review - we're talking 118 pictures (usually only event coverage reaches those numbers) - I want to share with you my building of the Sector Imperialis Basilicanum that was released along the Warhammer 40.000 Kill Team release in July 2018.

Usually Games Workshop releases the terrain novelties around Christmas, as they speak to a broad audience of players, not only those who play specific armies. But this extensive range accompanies the entry level skirmish set up of Kill Team in the World of Warhammer 40.000. There are different sizes of Sector Imperialis Ruins available, the small Ruins set for 30 EUR, the Sector Administratum for 40 EUR, the larger Sanctum for 60 EUR and the biggest kit of the range, the Sector Imperialis Basilicanum for 80 EUR that we're going to unbox and build today.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Shattered Dominion Objectives

Usually Christmas or the turn of the year is the time for terrain with Games Workshop. But with the new Age of Sigmar edition just released there is a new set of objective markers available, the Shattered Dominion Objectives.

Of the new terrain sets, many have their own rules of how they affect the game play and benefit a certain faction (you remember the Shipwreck I covered earlier on this blog). Yes, this is technically terrain, but not really, they have names but no special rules (but hey, nobody is forcing you to not use your own house rules to change that). I am really interested in this - as it is a fantasy set - that will make good use with a broad variety of fantasy rules. So let's see in this review what is in the box.

Micro Art Studios Brick Walls

Micro Art Studio has widened their range of mostly bases and licensed Infinity terrain to more "franchises" and settings. Some of them belong to Wolsung or grim dark sci-fi settings, others are for historical games. I did show you some items from the generic / historical settings in reviews, like the foam hills or fuel depot, and I'd like to add the brick wall set to it.

Pegasus Hobbies Russian Houses 7703 + 7704

Pegasus Hobbies is an American model kit company that offers quite a broad selection of kits in different scales. Some of them are marketed as 1/72 scale, others as 28mm. For this unboxing and build review I bought these kits a while back online. They are called the Russian Houses 7703 and 7704, and come with a single larger house or two medium sized houses.

Warlord Games Stone Bridge

Before the Coastal Defense by Warlord Games is released in the next month, I'd like to present the Stone Bridge in this review. It is part of the cooperation of Warlord Games and Italeri and added to the Bolt Action plastic terrain range.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Etheric Vortex Gloomtide Shipwreck

As part of the release of the Idoneth Deepkin, Games Workshop presents a new scenery item, the Etheric Vortex Gloomtide Shipwreck. This goes along with the new idea, to pair a matching terrain piece for each of the Age of Sigmar factions. In this review I'd like to share with you my experience on unboxing and building the Gloomtide Shipwreck.

The Gloomtide Shipwreck comes in a medium sized box, that is similar to the one used for other terrain kits, like the Ryza Pattern Ruins or Azyrite Ruins. It is priced at 25 GBP / 32.50 EUR / 40 USD.

Warhammer 40,000 STC Ryza Pattern Ruins

Along with the Necromunda Release, Games Workshop put a lot of suiting terrain on the market. As a "entry" product, with a low price barrier the STC Ryza Pattern Ruins caught my eye and were added to my terrain collection, for their generic yet very 40k like style.

Micro Art Studios Foam Hills

The polish manufacturer Micro Art Studio offers a broad range of terrain, made from resin, mdf and foam. They even carry licensed products for systems like Wolsung or Infinity. In this review I'd like to cover generic wargaming items in form of hills, made from foam.

The pictures above are from the MAS online shop and show the large hill and a set of four flat hills. They come unpainted and are 19,68 EUR (the large hill) and 34,44 EUR (flat hills). They are slightly primed in black.
