HANS VIII – Starting the next round of the traveling tabletop box
Another instalment of HANS! went through here after April and as there were no other chances for a bring & buy or other kind of browsing through Wargaming items lately, I gladly picked up the chance again.
This is the fifth time I participate, and due to the random order assigned to his tour at the beginning, there were "only" 4 stations between the last stay and now, so it is going to be interesting what went out and what went in. I have explained the rules of HANS! a few times in the last articles, and you can see how the last tours went, in the 2019 HANS!, in 2020 with HANS V! and last year's 2021 and sixth tour prior to leaving TTW, as well as the first discord organised Hans VII.
NickRyder / BamH_Tv is the one organising HANS and coordinates the journey. But he moved it from the German wargaming community TabletopWelt towards his discord server, for several reasons he covered in one of the videos prior to starting the new edition. For those new to this:
How does HANS! work? Well, Nick packs a box of items, he would like to trade, and a number of people from the community sign in to participate. He then randomly assigns an order of the names and ships it off to the first person on that list. That person receives the box, checks for items he or she could use and puts in items from his or her collection, of similar or higher value, that they don't longer need.
There are multiple boxes of this kind on their journey, with different themes and rules. For example, things like "No books" is common (as outdated rulebooks have a low value, but add quickly towards the weight of the box), no painted miniatures (at least nothing that can not be easily striped) and so on. There were boxes that were Osprey Games only, or strictly 28mm. Most important is that you clarify that everybody uses a reliable shipping agency and chooses insured + tracked shipping.
SPOILER ALERT - if you don't want a peak what is inside, don't read further. I usually take pictures when I unpack HANS, to ensure I can arrange everything back together afterwards. It just makes it so much easier. A few rule sets and the mandatory log book were on top and below that several boxes with different miniatures and sprues.
I highly recommend opening all the boxes, as the product packaging is often repurposed and so - for example - a Frostgrave Barbarian box might not cover plastic sprues, but much more or different content. Same goes for the marking on some of the bigger boxes, as they are re-used due to their sturdiness, the writing on the outside might not be up to date. But as you can see, a lot of different things, a whole 15mm ACW project with Confederates and Union troops, historical, fantasy and sci-fi miniatures, non-GW and oldhammer as well.
So, what did I take from HANS this time?
- Skeleton Standard Bearer
- Wight
- 2x Epic 40k Thunderhawks
- Wood Elf Musician
- 2x Bears
- Half a Box of Centaurs
And for that I added these to HANS
- Star Wars Legions Character
- A Dark Elf Line Player
- Two 28mm Buildings Kits
- Forge World Horus Heresy World Eater Rhino Doors
- Khorne Bloodletter Command
- Khaos Exclusive Promo Miniatures
HANS is already on its way and arrived at the next stop. I am interested what the others will take out. I highly recommend the pick up service by DHL, as it makes the whole process so much more convenient (by the way, if you have a retour label etc. you can combine multiple packages for pick up for a flat 3 EUR).
Safe travel HANS! Until next time.
