FeenCon 2024

Last weekend Dino and I went to the FeenCon, a convention hosted in Bonn, which went through a couple of changes over the last few years - one of them moving from the old location of Bonn Bad Godesberg towards Bonn Beuel, from the town hall to the comprehensive school.

And across the venue, the tabletop area was the smaller gymnasium, with the trade stands and board games and pen & paper in the other areas.

The tabletop area was hosted by three clubs, Bedburger Tabletop Freunde, Privateer Poza Boyz and the Tabletop Community Bonn. You might know the Bedburger Tabletop Freunde from our visit to their club house.

Radaddel and Tabletop Dragon were the traders who supported the tabletop area directly, with the later having a trade stand onsite.

There were various demo games hosted, and a lot of variety covered with sci-fi and fantasy settings. The Bedburgers hosted a Star Wars Legion game with proper terrain. Really like the small settlement, and they used 3d printed parts as well as Shatterpoint terrain sets.

Beyond that, there was a mixture of various systems, with Mordheim, Xenos Rampant from Osprey Games, Bolt Action by Warlord Games, and a display of the Dunkelstadt (former Ziterdes, now picked up by Toru-Tech).

Ezze / Michael hosted this great looking Dead Mans Hand table, and is working on something new, moving up north into the colder areas of the Wild West.

While the Bonner Tabletop Community hosted a 2 on 2 demo for Adeptus Titanicus, I had to take pictures. Really like the diorama bases they did for the titans. This has to be one of the very few tables, I've seen so far that didn't make use of the GrimDarkTerrain.

The Bedburgers do Middle Earth as well and had this scenic table with them, showing this Amon Hen scenario.

But we did not just watch, but actually participate, so we picked up the offer from the Bonner Tabletop Community and had a game of Gaslands. They had a proper bunch of warbands to choose from.

And a rather large table to give it a go.

The event has changed a lot, while tabletop was always a part, it was much more dominant this year compared to the years before. The role playing aspect moved a bit into the background from my perspective, but maybe the area and way the rooms were distributed created that impression.

The entry fee is reasonable for this event, especially sundays 6 EURs. Comparing prices at the traders is recommended, as some listed items above RRP, and other boxes or blisters seem to be traveling to the show since the mid 00s. A lot of the traders offer books, from tabletop supplements to role playing rule sets, I picked up various items for my wargaming library over the last decade, and an Middlehammer army book this time.

Thanks again to the wargaming clubs for raising the tabletop banner at the show, especially the Bedburger Tabletop Freunde and the Tabletop Community Bonn.
