June 2026 review

Halfway through 2026!

The year is already half over, and we have seen quite a bit so far. CONflict Rheinland may have taken place at the end of May, but the coverage only went online in June, so I’m including it here as well. Once again we had our own table, played a good amount of games, and had a really solid day overall. What more could you want?

It is a bit of a shame, though, that the next tabletop event, as things stand now, will not be until September: Rhein Main Multiversum 2026 in Nidderau. So there will have to be a few private sessions in between.

Speaking of private gaming sessions, there were a few of those in June as well. I met up with Team Würfelkrieg for some gaming and bbq, and we played a few rounds of What a Tanker! That will definitely be continued with more games later on. The highlight, though, was the ride in the Willys Jeep.

And even though I did not attend Salute myself, Stahly from Tale of Painters kindly brought me back a goodie bag. It has been quite a while since I last went to Salute myself, but I always enjoy collecting the dice and event miniatures.

Oldhammer Terrain

For the CONflict gaming table, I also built a bunch of cacti so we would have enough terrain for our game. That also went straight into Florian’s Chaos Space Marine army shot. Of course, the tutorial is available as well - you can find it here.

But that is not the end of it, because even more terrain is needed, so I am currently working on various vehicle wrecks. The first one is an eBay rescue, a Leman Russ battle tank.

Return to the Second World War

With the Kickstarter for Ambush Miniatures’ Panzerdivision Cerberus, I also returned to the Second World War setting after quite a long break. I wrote house rules for the E-Series and the Löwe for Bolt Action and Konflikt '47. We also tested something for What a Tanker! as part of the battle report, and I still need to finish formatting that for the blog.

And something else I have done again after a long break: a review of “historical” tanks, the E-10 and E-25. I have to say, I really enjoyed working with the house rules. It has made me quite eager to get back into my field conversions and captured vehicles, and to see what else is not yet covered in the Armies of... books.

Imperial-Assault-Kampagne

This also moved forward. Our group played the mission “Generous Donation,” and you can really feel the challenges of late-game content. The balancing gap is opening up, and we will have to see how the remaining missions play out.

The next date is a bit tricky at the moment because the players with children in the group are already dealing with school summer holidays. Most likely, we will not continue until August.

Horus Heresy

This time there is not just an update on audiobooks, but also, much like with the World War content, a return to Adeptus Titanicus. As part of the Big Summer Preview, Games Workshop gave us a look at the next wave of new releases for Legions Imperialis / Adeptus Titanicus, which will bring some previously resin-only options into plastic for Warlord and Reaver Titans.

Since the Battle of Uulda is now a while behind us and my Legio Astraman is still not fully finished, this is also something that I need to tackle.

In June, I finished Old Earth and was surprised by the amount of additional plot threads beyond the Salamanders. We have Eldrad Ulthran and Narek bringing the Cabal storyline to a close, Jehu Aug’s betrayal of Shadrak Meduson, and Vulkan’s arrival on Terra. I continued with The Burden of Loyalty, though I have not gotten very far yet, partly because I have been driving around less on my own and partly because my Android Auto now restarts the track at 0:00 when I get into the car, which would not be a big deal for music, but is rather annoying for audiobooks. The Burden of Loyalty is a short story collection, and I really enjoyed Cybernetica, a story about a Raven Guard Techmarine who was on Mars at the time of the planet’s fall. I am currently in Ordo Sinister, which brings the whole thing back around to Adeptus Titanicus.

What is coming in July?

After almost having finished Forza Horizon, I ended up buying Anno 117 after all, since it was on sale, and I have been working through the campaign tutorials. Still, I feel more comfortable with the endless game mode.

The temperatures have unfortunately not allowed for much hobby time, and I am in the final stretch before my vacation, which will take me back toward the Mediterranean. I even have a small project that I really should take with me on holiday. I will keep you posted!
