Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Azyrite Townscape
To be added to the Warcry terrain, I got myself the Azyrite Townscape. I had my eyes on the kit for a while now, as it is generic set of ruins and as such can be used for multiple setups.
The Azyrite Townscape is part of the Dominion of Sigmar terrain range and accompanied by two other sets, a smaller one Azyrite Ruins and a larger boxed set Realm of Battle Blasted Hallowheart. The name azyrite comes from Azyr, the celestial realm in the new Age of Sigmar.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar WarCry – Part 2
As promised we continue the review on Warcry today, after we've talked about the Warbands and other miniatures yesterday, the second part will focus on the terrain and gaming board you will fight your matches on.
Included with Warcry as part of the terrain is a 22" by 30" folding game plan. It is printed on both sides, but more on that further below. At first I was a bit irritated, as it is rather large, but it just folds one time less than the Kill Zone boards, as you can see in the comparison picture.
Warcry picks up on the folding game boards, that were introduced with Kill Team. If you remember the "buzz" on the size of them when they were released, that they were not orientating on the 4' by 4' or 4' by 6', but 22" by 30". Why is that? Well, that is size that is more appliable in gaming stores, taking up less space and making it possible for more participants to play on the same or smaller amount of tables. It roughly orientates on the dimensions of trading card games while using mats and such.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar Warcry – Part 1
Today is the release day of the newest boxed set within the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Universe - Warcry! Warcry is a skirmish game with smaller warbands and is offered as a starter set including terrain and gaming board, similar to what we know from Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team.
The box the starter set comes in is one huge beast, as you can see above and weights around 9 lb / 4 kg. It is quite thick and stable, similar to the Speed Freeks boxed set. It is twice as high as the regular Warhammer Age of Sigmar starter kits as you can see in the picture below. If you have ordered your copy in a Warhammer store or local gaming store, you might be in for treat, as they have several different promotional items, like these buttons and wristbands (as long as stock lasts).
Terrain, Travel and Birthdays!
I am currently working on a couple of terrain pieces, that will follow my Warcry review. Among them is the Sigmarite Dais and the Azyrite Townscape, that will go great with the terrain from the Warcry starter kit.
I started with the Sigmarite Dais, a round temple base, that I primed black and gave a coat of grey paint. I added details and several coats of drybrush, beginning with AP Uniform Grey, Skeleton Bone and Weapon Bronce for the metal parts, that got washed with Badab Black.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Awakened Wyldwood
Along with some novelties for the Sylvaneth, primarely the Battletome, they receive a boxed set of terrain - the Awakened Wyldwood.
About painting…
Back then, in a grim and dark past, there was no such thing as washes on the market, and their counterparts, classic inks, were not as widespread as they are today. In the coming articles I will talk a little about the painting of figures in general and my personal preferences and experiences. A good start is my basic attitude towards this part of the hobby, or better yet, how it has changed over time. This will become clearer in the course of the further articles.
I returned to the hobby in 2001 when an old friend of mine met me in my american football club and I happened to see his models when we hung out one day. Since I was active in the hobby for a short time in my youth, it didn't seem strange to me and I thought, "Oh, that looks cool, but...what is it?". Because, the first time, I had seen the miniature hobby in a shop of the chain Welt der Spiele (Games Workshop stores didn't exist like sand at the sea at that time) and didn't know a single game system. Primarily the optical attraction had pulled me into the shop. The models covered the usual range from Fantasy to SciFi of different manufacturers.
In any case, over time I had had the desire to reach a level of painting that would approach a competition level. The internet was still in its childhood stages, but became a more and more important part of the hobby and in 2007 I had seen so many great models that were brought to life by their paintwork that I wanted the same.
Asgard Aschaffenburg TableTopia 2019
Yesterday I visited the two day event of TableTopia by Asgard Aschaffenburg, a wargaming club from Northern Bavaria / Frankonia. The event is hosted in the youth centre of the Schweinheim district. The building has no parking lot of its own, but you can park you car along the street. And as you can see, the date of july 6th and 7th has gloriously sunny weather.
BLOOD BOWL – Journey of the Maulers: Wanderleagues
As the third lineplayer paintwise doesn't offer anything new compared to the other two, I'll talk a bit about my Wanderleague system today, but more about that in a moment. I've tried a little something on Gorhuk the Smelly. On the one hand, I'm just starting to love the color scheme of keeping the clothes completely in black and the armor in yellow, on the other hand I wanted to do something new and tried painting the logo on the side of the helmet, just to see how it would look. That turned out pretty well so far and I think the other players will get the team logo painted onto the side of their helmets as well over the course of time.
Blood Bowl Team Greenfield Grasshuggers
31 years after their initial introduction, the Greenfield Grasshuggers receive a plastic kit as part of the latest Blood Bowl reincarnation.
The Greenfield Grasshuggers were shown for the first time in the rulebook of the 2nd edition of Blood Bowl in 1988, above the entry you can see a bit of the Nurgle Rotters, who got a recent re-release for Blood Bowl as a plastic kit as well. The halflings were available as miniatures casted from metal with 6 different poses and a star player, Puggy Baconbreath in the late 80s / early 90s. Later in the mid 90s, during the 3rd edition of Blood Bowl, the models got a re-design, again with 6 different poses. (The Citadel Annual pictures were taken from SoLegend, Cat 1989 and Cat 1994). Prior to the release of the plastic kit, Games Workshop offered the 3rd edition metal team as made-to-order, a chance that I took as you can see here.
CONflict Rhineland 2019
Today and tomorrow the CONflict Rheinland (Rhineland) will be held in Langenfeld near Leverkusen, between Cologne and Dusseldorf. As such it was a short and straight trip for me, 5 minutes to the Autobahn, 1 hour on it (just the A3, no changes...) and roughly 5 minutes to get from the exit to the venue.
The venue is the marksmen's club house St. Sebastianus Reusrath. Tickets are 5 EUR for a single day ticket and 8 EUR for both. Parking is free and available plenty right in front of the venue. As a club house, it has a bar counter, where drinks and snacks are available and as a marksmen's club house, it has a small shooting range, that was repurposed as an additional gaming area.
