Wellington Te Papa – Gallipoli The Scale of our War
Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, is home to many cultural sites, among them Te Papa Tongarewa, the National Museum of New Zealand. The name means "the place of treasures of this land" and covers many different exhibitions, about the history, the animals and plants of this country, as well as a current exhibition about Gallipoli, that was done in cooperation with Weta Workshop. The exhibition is not the be confused with the Great War Exhibition in the anzac park, that will be covered soon here as well.
The Papa is a large building in the harbour area of Wellington and covers several free exhibitions. This exhibition will be shown between April 2015 until April 2019.
Historicon 2017 Kurt Knispel & Tanks
In July, from the 12th to 15th, the Historicon 2017 was held in Fredericksburg, VA (Virginia, United States). It is a large wargaming event by the HMGS, Historical Miniature Gaming Society, and will return to Lancaster, PA, next year (after leaving it in 2009). As many other events, the Historicon offers a special annual event miniature and as they team up with Warlord Games, this miniature is available during the event in their online store, for those who can't make it. This is even a nice thing for the Americans, as even if you live in the United States, that doesn't necessarily mean that you are anywhere near.
After Lt. Winters in 2014, a Redcoat from Waterloo in 2015, Harry Flashman in 2016 and this year, for the 100th anniversary of tanks in 2017 - the german tank Ace Kurt Knispel.
New Zealand / Aotearoa 2017
You might be wondering, why it was so quiet in July on Chaosbunker. The ones following me on facebook, might have seen it - I was in New Zealand / Aotearoa for a month.
Cantabrum Indoctum Iuga Ferre Nostra
"Cantabrum indoctum iuga ferre nostra - Cantabria, that won't bear our yoke", Quintus Horatius Flaccus.
Continuing the ancient SAGA projects, more cavalry arrived for the Iberians. I had a bit of trouble continuing this part of the SAGA warbands, as Victrix is a bit of a problem to get your hands on. Some sets, like the Balearic Slingers are direct only, others are regularly available. Never the less, the Iberians are the third warband, after Germans and Romans.
I introduced the Celt-Iberians in this first post, talking about the background and I have two further post about northern Spain and the Museum of Archaeology of Cantabria (MUPAC). But begin with the bulk, most of the units are already build and based.
Bolt Action Campaign Battle of the Bulge
The first campaign supplement in the new edition is Battle of the Bulge, the battles in the last winter of world war two.
Along with Duel in the Sun this is the thickest campaign supplement for Bolt Action at 124 pages. It covers a specific campaign instead of an area, therefore the scenarios etc. are pretty much following each other. The book covers 12 scenarios, an army list for the free french and special rules for the fierce winter situation in western europe. Pricing is set at 19,99 GBP or 30 USD, which translates around 25 EUR.
Rubicon Models Allied Stowage Set 1
As a counterpart to the German Stowage Set, Rubicon Models released the Allied Stowage Set 1 in late summer 2016. So now you'll be able to add luggage and equipment to your allied vehicles in 28mm.
Bolt Action Armies of Germany (2nd Edition)
The first "Armies of" to get an update is the oldest one, Armies of Germany.
Since October 2016 the book is available in english and once again written by Warwick Kinrade, who already wrote the first one. The book has slightly grown from former 96 pages to now 108 pages and of course, comes with an exclusive miniature for direct customers and pre-orders. Last time it was Otto Skorzeny, now it is an unnamed duo of german soldiers, one carrying the other.
Bolt Action Second Edition Rules
Roughly 4 years after the first edition, Warlord Games treats the Bolt Action community with an updated, second edition of the rules in late 2016. Along with the already available english version of the Bolt Action rules, now in early 2017 translated copies in german, french, spanish and italian are ready to be shipped.
The game grew incredibly over the last years, a lot of supplements were added – covering army and campaign books – and it was taken care of with FAQ and erratas. This review is based upon the english hardcover rule book, that is sold individually for 30 GBP.
Para Bellum – Reinforcement for the Romans
While currently preparing a load of reviews, painting terrain and base colours, I got a small reinforcement for the SAGA Romans.
