Warhammer World 2018 – Exhibition Centre Part 2
With the Old World covered in Part 1 of the Exhibition Centre article, this one focuses on the next two areas, with the (grim) dark Sci-Fi setting of the Warhammer 40,000 world, including the horus heresy and the main piece of the exhibition, Battle for Angelus Prime.
And be sure, the grim dark future of Warhammer 40,000 is not under represented. Indeed quite the opposite. The setting has outpaced the former bigger, fantasy brother in the last decade. This has many reasons, one of them surely the popularity of the Horus Heresy, which is although shown in its broad beauty, both in the newer plastics and extended Forge World resin range.

Warhammer World 2018 – Exhibition Centre Part 1
The exhibition hall at Warhammer World has a long tradition and has been redone in a couple of variations. For a short amount of time before the last huge overhaul, it was a medium sized room with show cabinets on all walls, covering the different armies from the Warhammer Fantasy and 40,000 ranges.
But that room is history and was replaced by a much larger installment. The new exhibition centre covers two floors and 4 areas, along with a huge centre piece, The Battle For Angelus Prime, that will be shown further below. Entry is 7,50 GBP per adult, 5 GBP for children from 12 to 17, younger kids are free. There are group and family tickets available as well.
Games Workshop has gathered some of their first products, released back in the days when they were a publishing company, along with going through their archives to bring back some of the first models. Some of these pieces were shown on Games Days (those are called Warhammer Fest now), but are now presented in the first cabinets you see when you enter the exhibition centre.
Undead Blood Bowl Team – Golden Vultures
Almost eight years ago, I started a Blood Bowl project in a german-speaking forum, with the aim to create a team by simply using leftovers that I found in my bitzbox. In doing so, I wanted to make sure that I painted and played as well, and that's how the concept of "Challenge" came into being, where I had to completely paint up a mini before each game.
As I rummaged in my Bitzbox, I noticed that there were still a surprisingly large number of remnants of a classic human plastic team and skeletons lying around. At that time available Undead Blood Bowl players were all made of pewter and since you touch your models often in this game, I wanted to avoid this material as much as possible. So the thought grew in me to combine the remains of the old human team with those of the skeletons.
Blood Bowl – Skycastle Titans Part 2

At the Skycastle Titans' last team presentation (read it HERE), you've probably noticed that some of the team’s players have been missing yet. It`s about time for an update.
In order to maintain motivation when painting a team, it usually makes sense to start with the rather expendable players to reward yourself with the more interesting models. Accordingly, I painted the linerat as the first of the last four psychos…er…players. I chose a helmeted head from a few regiment lefovers of the Skaven and gave the rat an additional shoulder padding, which rounded off the Blood Bowl look nicely.
The troll, on the other hand, was one of the more elaborate conversions - for many years this classic model was languishing in a box, half painted but never finished. Partly out of pity, partly out of a strange fascination to overhaul old models, I stripped it from color and stuck all sorts of plastic parts to it. Retrospectively it occurred to me that he looked a bit like Flavor Flav, a well-known rapper from the 80s.
Blood Bowl humans revisited
After the 2016/17 relaunch of Blood Bowl, I took the time to take a look at the current status of some of my teams and get a feeling what to do next.
As I already have quite a lot of teams and miniatures for the game around, there was no need for the whole new box, so I managed to buy just the pitch along with rules etc. on eBay. I have the 2007 (?) metal team around, but wasn't to happy as I missed a few of the mold lines prior to priming and started out with a too dark colour. So they got the special treatment and I stripped the colours, for a new beginning.
Ayora Studio – Meinolf, the last Captain
In June of this year Ayora Studio released a limited edition of Meinolf, the last Captain, a 54mm miniature.
Games Workshop on the rise?
Most of you probably noticed the drastic change at Games Workshop in the last few month and it seems that their pace in this "conversion" is quite fast.
Still many people are irritated by the transition of Warhammer Fantasy into Age of Sigmar. You have any reason to be, if you're looking for mass combat with large regiments, Age of Sigmar won't be your choice. But remember what is one of the biggest problems in our hobby. The high barrier of entry. And this high barrier is a reason for many other systems to not succeed.
Oldhammer much?
This year is my 20th (!) "anniversary" in wargaming. Still can't believe it has been that long, since my first miniatures and wargaming rules.
Inspired by the exhibiton at Tactica 2017 and associated contest on Sweetwater, I would like to share my beginnings in wargaming. It must have been the summer of 96, in an art study group at school. Somebody had Heroquest miniatures with them, and my oldest friend Holger remembered, seeing those at a toy store near our home town. We had 30-60 minute car travels (well, we annoyed our parents until the drove us) to nearby cities, to get our hands on our first White Dwarfs. In September I bought my first miniature, a Space Marine Veteran Sergeant or Captain, that I painted directly in store - in the colour of the Blood Angels, as those are part of the current starter box. Later that year I subscribed to White Dwarf, as it was an incredible hassle to get one in the countryside.
gamescom 2015 – Part II
And of course, part II of the gamescom visit. So what does a wargamer do on a video game show? He takes a look at wargames and wargame-themed games.
Neocore Games, a small independend studio from hungary, had Inquisitor Martyr with them, and even some death cult assassins to guard their booth. The game is still in an early pre-alpha status, but you could give it a try. It's a sci-fi hack & slay, where you control an Inquisitor against the foul heretics with already some nice graphics and grim dark feel. Some of the details are missing, but it is a pre-alpha so i am pretty sure, we will see more of it.

After waiting that long and the big question, what's in it? I started unboxing the first batch of the Sedition Wars biohazard pledge. And to be sure it's complete.
