Warhammer 40,000 – Leviathan Terminators and Characters
We did the Unboxing of the Warhammer 40,000 Leviathan boxed set and start with the first detailed review covering the new, upscaled Terminators and Characters, a Captain and a Librarian.
These models are currently only available via Leviathan and as they are push-fit, it is likely that the characters will be available separately later, but the Terminators will most likely be replaced with a multipart plastic kit, covering additional weapon options.
What are Terminators? Only the Veterans of the 1st company of a Space Marine chapter, who earn the Crux Terminatus, have the right to wear the Tactical Dreadnought Armour, most commonly known as Terminator Armour. These armours are the toughest infantry armour the Mechanicum provides to the Space Marines, but their wearers trade in maneuverability for protection and heavier firepower. As such they are often used in boarding actions on starships or other assault missions, where they can make additional use of the teleportation technology integrated into the armour.
Warhammer 40,000 – Leviathan Unboxing
You can pre-order the launch box of Warhammer 40,000 10th edition - Leviathan soon! This new box was previewed on Warhammer Fest in April 2023.
This is not a starter set, as we've seen in the past, but a Tyrannic Wars themed launch set, covering two armies, Space Marines and Tyranids, and the new 10th edition rulebook as a hardcover.
Warhammer 40,000 – Blood Angels Commander Dante
Along with the Lion, and briefly after Azrael, another classic Warhammer hero returns Commander Dante.
He is the second of the major Blood Angels characters to cross the Rubicon Primaris after Mephiston, the Chief Librarian.
The box is available for pre-order since today, April 15th, at a RRP of 35 EUR and will be delivered a week after.
Warhammer 40,000 – Dark Angels Supreme Grand Master Azrael
With the Wrath of the Soul Forge boxed set, we see the return of Supreme Grand Master Azrael, after he crossed the Rubicon Primaris.
He certainly will - as many of the other characters - be available on his own outside of the bundle. So far no RRP was communicated on him, but I assume he will be around price of High Marshal Helbrecht - 42,50 EUR / 32,50 GBP.
Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marine Brutalis Dreadnought
While we had our last review covering a Dreadnought last year as part of our Horus Heresy Age of Darkness coverage with the Contemptor Dreadnought plastic kit, today we want to cover the new Space Marine Brutalis Dreadnought, available from today via the Strike Force Agastus.
The new Primaris sized Dreadnoughts are a bit of a mixture of the classic dreadnought we know from the 90s is classified as Castraferrum Pattern Mark V Dreadnought, and the old Rogue Trader era Dreadnought Armour. The early designs, closer to robots than the walking sarcophagus they are nowadays, were picked up with the Contemptor pattern. If you take a look on the legs, you see they are more articulated as with the Castraferrum pattern and the design department went back to that.
Horus Heresy – Liber Hereticus
The second supplement for the new Horus Heresy covers the Traitor Legions and is called Liber Hereticus, and provides the same information as the Liber Astartes does for the loyal legion for those who follow the Warmaster Horus.
Each of the legion books is 55 EURs and more than 300 pages thick. They are produced as full coloured hard cover, with thick paper and even a cloth bookmark. And this review on the Liber Heretics is going to give you a similar deep dive, as we did earlier on the Liber Astartes.
Horus Heresy – Liber Astartes
In addition with the update Horus Heresy rule set (currently not available on its own, just as part of the Age of Darkness set) Games Workshop released two large supplements, covering the army lists for the loyalist and traitor Space Marine Legions.
Each book is 55 EURs and more than 300 pages thick. Manufactured as a hard cover in full colour, with thick paper and even a cloth bookmark. We're going to look into these separately, beginning with the Liber Astartes. The book for the Space Marine Legions loyal to the Emperor.
Horus Heresy – Land Raider Spartan Assault Tank
Last of our Horus Heresy Age of Darkness detail reviews, covers after the regular Infantry and the Contemptor Dreadnought, the mighty Land Raider Spartan. The kit is not yet available on its own and currently only available as part of the Age of Darkness starter set.
This is not the first time a Land Raider Spartan is available in (or at least made from) plastic. Actually the first one, was a conversion based upon the Rogue Trader era Land Raider kit, combined with plastic card and parts from the old Space Marine Rhino. It was introduced as part of the Modelling Workshop section of White Dwarf 119, by no other than Tony Cottrell (former head of Forge World and designer of an incredible amount of kits) back in 1989!
Horus Heresy – Contemptor Dreadnought
We move the size class a bit, covered the infantry already, now it is time for the walking tombs, the Contemptor Dreadnought from the Horus Heresy Age of Darkness boxed set.
The classic dreadnought we know from the 90s is classified as Castraferrum Pattern Mark V Dreadnought, with the variants that were released by Forge World as Mark IV with slightly slender / less bulky proportions. But the Contemptor Dreadnought is actually something picked up from the era of Rogue Trader and reconnected with the lore for the Horus Heresy.
Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness Infantry
After covering the content of the Horus Heresy - Age of Darkness boxed set in our unboxing, I'll cover the plastic kits in three reviews - the Infantry, the Contemptor Dreadnought and the Land Raider Spartan. Beginning today with the Space Marines on foot.
You can find all the pictures of the content in the unboxing, but we're going to build some miniatures from the different sprues of the Legion Space Marines in Mark VI armour, the Praetors and Terminators in Cataphractii armour.
