Fences for my Rohan town
We've added barrels and crates to the fantasy town, what's next? A bit of fencing! Along with the barrels, I ordered the palisade fencing at Renedra.
Each bag comes with two sprues, with 4 piece of fence and 5 posts. They are 5 GBP per double-pack of sprues.
Adding bits and items to the Rohan settlement
We continue to add matching bits and kits to the Rohan settlement, after looking into the outbuildings by Renedra, a few goods and trade items would be an interesting idea to follow up.
As the Rohan House comes with barrels, a few more of these came to mind - and Renedra has that covered as well. They come in two different sizes, can be bought separated by size or in mixed sets. They are casted in brown plastic, so if you're a bit lazy, simply giving them a drybrush and wash would get you something ready-to-play. A mixed set of 5 large and 5 small barrels will cost you around 3,50 GBP.
The Rohan settlement grows even further
One of the first kits that came to my mind to extend the settlement were the outhouses by Renedra.
The outhouses / outbuildings are available in multiple variants, like wattle/daub, timber and stone. I wanted to show you the wattle and timber one, but had a mix-up in the other, so the wattle/timber will take its place.
SdKfz 6/3 Diana for the Afrikakorps – but how?
As if the decision about the Sd.Kfz. 7 wasn't hard enough, a few weeks ago I found this one, the Sd.Kfz. 6/3 Diana. It is based upon the Sd.Kfz. 6, which is basically a lighter predecessor of the Sd.Kfz. 7 "only" being able to tow 5t instead of 8t. It was fitted with captured Soviet 76-mm divisional guns model 1936 (F-22) and an armoured superstructure was build around it.
The Sd.Kfz. 6 is not available in 28mm, the Diana can only be bought as model kits or 15mm, but it was in service in the Afrikakorps. So it would fit in the project and would be another great field conversion and outstanding rarety. Yet, how to approach this project?
8,8 cm FlaK 37 for the Afrikakorps
I already have an 8,8 FlaK, the kit by Warlord Games / Italeri, and the Blitzkrieg one, but as I wanted a mounted one, that could be towed, I looked into the Rubicon kit as well (and because my Afrikakorps almost exclusively uses Rubicon kits for vehicles).
The Rohan settlement grows
So after collecting a few ideas, I went on to build the remaining kits. If you are planning on "free building", I suggest that you lay out the pieces you intend to use, to get an idea on size as well as the availability of the parts you need.
The reason why I went with the regular build in the review of the Rohan house was, to get an understanding for the kit. The get to know the function and the way how the pieces interact with eachother and what might be a too daring endevour.
Collecting a few ideas on Rohan houses
A bird never flew on one wing, and that's the reason why a single house is not enough for a proper settlement - even a small one. As stated in one of the weekend updates, I added a few further house kits to the stock, to be able to tinker a bit.
Lord of the Rings – Rohan Watchtower & Palisade
The Rohan House wasn't released by it self, but came with a second Rohan terrain kit, the Watchtower and Palisades.
Lord of the Rings – Rohan House
Games Workshop released towards the end of 2019, along with an update for the Middle Earth game system, two new terrain kits for Rohan, a house and a combination of walls and a tower. We'll look into the house today.
Black Powder – Compagnies Franches de la Marine
The box of the Compagnies Franches de la Marine was published years ago by Warlord Games, but came into focus again with the publication of the black powder supplement "A Dark And Bloody Ground" for the French and Indian War. Various special offers from Warlord Games included this box, so it's worth a look.
