August 2022 review

August is over, we're in the last third of 2022. Let that sink in.

I was at RatCon 2022, a roleplaying convention not far from me. It is part of the Ulisses Con Tour and covers multiple pen & paper role playing games, organized partially by the hosts or gamers themself. There are a variety of rpgs available and played, but The Dark Eye / Das Schwarze Auge is the most prominent. From time to time, the RatCon included smaller tabletop side events, but due to the health requirements and organisational conditions, this wasn't the case this time. Yet, I was able to get my hands on an old Armalion blister (with miniatures sculpted by Werner Klocke) and the RatCon event miniature (3d printed in dark grey resin). The next event of the tour will by DreieichCon from 19. - 20. November 2022.

We even met some folks from Asgard Aschaffenburg and are really hoping for a soon return of the Tabletopia event (last one was in 2019).

In September, I'll be heading over to the Rhein-Main-Multiversum, 10. and 11. September 2022, in Nidderau. Had a blast the last times in 2018 and 2019, and I'm very much looking forward to this years event, having secured a spot on a Battlefleet Gothic and Spectre demo game. It won't be a convention this year, but a open meetup for wargamers, so no trade stands this time.

Due to my rekindled fascination for the Old West, I ordered a few Renedra / Perry North American terrain sets via Radaddel (as Renedra doesn't cover IOSS - yet?). With all the hiatus about 4Ground and some general problems with Old West gaming, I want to go for a storable and reasonable priced gaming setup. This should give me the option to cover a 3' by 3' table, without bigger problems. But I might add some Sarissa kits for medium sized and special terrain pieces. But more on that in an article of its later in September.

With the 3d printer running, I'm preparing some Battlefleet Gothic terrain. I got myself some styrofoam globes and domes, and terrain building is a great activity, that I can do with my eldest. It can be a bit messy, but that is half the fun, I'll cover what we did and what the - current - results are in an article on its own.

And my commemorative miniatures arrived from the Warhammer+ subscription. The Orruk didn't really speak to me that much, it is just to have something to trade in at some point. And I have to be honest, the Assassin is only okay-ish up close, but the terrain piece will be a nice addition for a Sisters of Battle temple or something. Buuuut, the new one based upon the Mark Gibbons artwork is amazing.

That's it for today as a quick update. September will once again be more active and I'll cover some reviews from my backlog, so stay tuned.
