July 2026 review

We returned last Thursday from our summer holiday to Spain.

We had great weather, swam in the ocean, visited a lot of sights, and yet didn't have enough time to catch up on everything that I had planned. Well, there's always a next time.

One of the sights that I visited, was Castillo de Argueso, and I brought along the miniature of a Spanish noble to take some pictures. Always bring a miniature with you, just like Team Würfelkrieg.

But I wasn't just on holiday in July, that was actually only the last 10 days of the month. What else happened?

Upcoming Releases

I updated the Warhammer 40,000 Through the Ages article to include the 11th edition, and came across the announcement of further Gothic Sector Terrain by Gale Force Nine. I already have a few kits of them here and will cover them in an upcoming review. We used them in the Chaosbunker Classics event, but I have to repaint them from Dark Angels to Imperial Fists colours. I have to say the Bastion really appeals to me.

There were further announcements that caught my eye. For example, the Bohemian Knights by North Star Military Figures. There will also be a plastic Hussite war wagon, and that's something I'm looking forward to. As these are more heroic in scale, there might be a few bits that fit well with Oldhammer Bretonnian and Empire miniatures.

And North Star was really cooking this month. Rhe teaser for the Warriors of Athena plastic kit looks amazing! Along with the Frostgrave kits, that's a proper resource for a lot of different skirmishers.

Latest and upcoming reviews

Speaking of Frostgrave, as we are coming towards the end of our Stargrave coverage, with the latest reviews on the Bold Endevour and Death Vector supplements, we will move to the Frostgrave rules in the future, so keep an eye out for that. We of course have plans to cover the Acceptable Losses supplement as well, wich is coming in November 2026 as well.

We gave What a Tanker a try last month, and I had the pleasure of playing a few rounds with Tobias and Evi, to get a better feel of the game for my review.

Cars and Bricks

Earlier this month I went to Klassikstadt with my son, as he has a interest in Porsches and their Zuffner Treff was the perfect place to scratch that itch. I even took my Speed Champion Porsche with me for some pictures, and regarding Lego Speed Champions, I finally had the chance to build the Hoonigan Ken Block 1965 Ford Mustang Hoonicorn V1.

Regarding events with motorized vehicles, I am so looking forward to Wheels & Tracks next weekend.

Horus Heresy

I finished The Burden of Loyalty, which features Ordo Sinister and gave me more insight into the Sinister Psi-Titans in Adeptus Titanicus. Overall a great collection, as The Binary Succession gave me more context on when the Mechanicum became the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Wolfking sets up the next book, Wolfsbane, which I have already started. This deals with the difficult position of Leman Russ after defeating his brother Magnus on Prospero, and coming to terms with his role as the Emperor's executioner. In Perpetual, we connect once more with Oll Persson and the Cabal.

I am in the first third of Wolfsbane. As I mentioned, it picks up from The Wolfking, but the storyline of the Mechanicum, including the introduction of Belisarius Cawl, makes it an interesting story arc while also bringing some of the narratives together. And yes, that is the Rubicon Primaris Belisarius Cawl.

And I'm happy that both last month and the coming one will keep me engaged with the Horus Heresy beyond just the audiobooks, as I received the latest wave of titans for Legions Imperialis / Adeptus Titanicus from Radaddel. The first Warlord review is already online, with the second one and the Reaver coming up next.

What is coming in August?

Our review backlog has filled up quite a bit in July, so there's a lot coming in Q3 of this year.

Asmodee Germany was kind enough to send us the Mandalorian Army box, Warlord Games Germany sent us a few boxes from Bolt Action and Konflikt '47, we have acryl markers from Arrtx, and Modern Combat by Fire! from Spain. And I ordered a small package from Footsore, who carry the new Paul Hicks Historical range, including the Monty, which is a charity miniature.

Therefore, expect broader coverage, including some (moving) pictures from next week's Wheels & Tracks.
