Hello everybody and welcome! After Dennis had a look at the frames of the G.I.s from Warlord Games in his review, I'll say a few words about painting these guys today.
Naval and nostalgic wargames
To continue the preparation of more Oldhammer, it is time to strip some plastic. I showed you the Rhino the last time, as well as some stripping of metal parts. Now we move on to the next level of complexity, larger kits and more fragile materials. Get a properly sized container and get on to it. I'll keep you posted in the next Rhino and Oldhammer posts.
Korea, Tanks and even more Boats
I am currently preparing the Cruel Seas review, along with the Flotillas and larger ships. I mentioned the resin ships in my last short update, Civilans, Romans and Boats, and I find it very appealing to build something completely different to the very dominant 28mm kits that I usually cover.
Assembly goes fast, as does the cleaning of the models, but the instructions could be clearer. I'll go into detail on that in the review.
Bolt Action US Infantry 2019 American GIs
This kit has been around for a while, but I think it makes sense to team it up with the Campaign supplement for Operation Overlord. Warlord Games gave the US Infantry, one of the oldest kits for Bolt Action along with the Brits, an overhaul. And that box is todays topic, the new US Infantry, WWII American GIs.
The kit is meant to be used for mid to late war period armies and covers the regular troops of the Americans, from the battles in the Mediterranean until the end of the war in Europa. As usual we have 30 miniatures spread across five sprues, along with multiple weapon options and of course round bases. You'll find a construction leaflet with multiple sample poses on it, along with a detail list of which part is which and a sheet of waterslide decals. The price for the 28mm hard plastic miniatures in heroic scale is 27 GBP.
Civilians, Romans and Boats
Since Wednesday the Colony 87 Kickstarter is online. The range moved from Jon Boyce to Crooked Dice and has its third wave crowdfunded.
And the campaign was funded within 15 minutes (with myself among the first backers!) and now already has unlocked the initial four stretch goals. Might be even more as there is a small delay between me writing this article and it going online. So I assume there is further progress.

Bolt Action Campaign D-Day: Overlord
In the year of the 75th anniversary of the D-Day it makes more than sense, to (re-)visit one of the most infamous operations of the second world war - Operation Overlord. Warlord covered the battles in North-Western Europe with the very first campaign supplement, Battleground Europe, and now comes with a strong focus on Campaign D-Day: Overlord.
While Battleground Europe covers the whole late war from the preparations to the landing in the Normandy, over Arnheim (that was covered in more detail with Campaign Market Garden) and Bastogne (which had a more detailled supplement with Campaign Battle of the Bulge) until the crossing of the Rhine, this book takes care of the very day of June 6th. If you read the intro of the very carefully, two more books are announced, that will cover the break outs from the beachheads by the US Americans, Canadians and British. Above you can see the early cover with an US American paratrooper and the later final cover with an US American GI.
Asgard Aschaffenburg TableTopia 2019
Yesterday I visited the two day event of TableTopia by Asgard Aschaffenburg, a wargaming club from Northern Bavaria / Frankonia. The event is hosted in the youth centre of the Schweinheim district. The building has no parking lot of its own, but you can park you car along the street. And as you can see, the date of july 6th and 7th has gloriously sunny weather.
Bolt Action Campaign Fortress Budapest
With the campaign Fortress Budapest supplement Bolt Action opens up a new theatre of war on the southern area of the Eastern Front. And unlike some of the other campaign supplements, it wasn't already covered in one of the broader books.
Fortress Budapest covers the late war Budapest Offensive of the Soviet and Romanian armies against the Nazi German and Hungarian forces, between 1944 and 1945. So this extends the battles of the Eastern Front, including the "smaller" allied nations of the Axis and Allies. With 168 pages this campaign supplement shares the status of begin the thickest campaign supplement so far with Western Desert. Yet Warlord Games keeps the price at 19,99 GBP or 30 USD and offers as usual a exclusive miniature for customers who order directly at them, Major Edomar Tassonyi. And once again we have an updated cover, but this time the motiv stayed the same, was just updated to a more battle worn image of the same soldier.
Summer Teaser
The last Bolt Action campaign review that I published was Battle of France back in April, I'm currently still working on the Fortress Budapest book. It is massive and a part of the war, that I am not that familiar with, so it takes a bit more time of preparation. In the meantime the next supplement, Campaign D-Day: Overlord was released, along with a matching summer campaign.
And let me tell you, this book is massive. It is the thickest supplement so far and covers an incredible amount of content. The Western Desert was the biggest so far with 168 pages and just look at the difference.
CONflict Rhineland 2019
Today and tomorrow the CONflict Rheinland (Rhineland) will be held in Langenfeld near Leverkusen, between Cologne and Dusseldorf. As such it was a short and straight trip for me, 5 minutes to the Autobahn, 1 hour on it (just the A3, no changes...) and roughly 5 minutes to get from the exit to the venue.
The venue is the marksmen's club house St. Sebastianus Reusrath. Tickets are 5 EUR for a single day ticket and 8 EUR for both. Parking is free and available plenty right in front of the venue. As a club house, it has a bar counter, where drinks and snacks are available and as a marksmen's club house, it has a small shooting range, that was repurposed as an additional gaming area.
