Cruel Seas Kriegsmarine R-23 R-Boat

I've added the Fairmile D to my Royal Navy, so I needed a medium sized counter part for my Kriegsmarine. Something the R-Boat could take care of.

Similar how E-Boat was an allied term for Enemy Boats, R-Boat is a term for Räumboote (meaning minesweeper). These R-Boats were build already before the second world war, and saw service post-war for clearing naval mines.

Cruel Seas Royal Navy Fairmile D MTB 624

I had the Royal Navy flotilla from the starter set already increased with the Flower Class Corvette, but I was looking for a mid-sized ship, that could be used in smaller to medium battles and went for the Fairmile D MTB.

The Fairmile D Motor Torpedo Boat is a british MTB, that was built by Fairmile Marine. A Fairmile is bigger than the earlier MTB/MGB (Motor Gun Boats), for example the Vosper or PT Boat, but slower in speed. They were named Dog Boats, and were designed to combat the more advantaged E-boats by the German Kriegsmarine.

Adeptus Titanicus – Civitas Imperialis Spires

In addition to the square building blocks and habitats of the Civitas Imperialis, Games Workshop released in 2019 a supplement to that kit, the Civitias Imperialis Spires, covering church spires and ecclesiarch buildings.

The spires kit is set at 25 EUR and covers a pair of identical large sprues, covering bases, small cathedrals, towers and spires. And of course comes with an assembly instruction.

Adeptus Titanicus – Civitas Imperialis

The first terrain kit released in 2018 for Adeptus Titanicus were the Civitas Imperialis. It was part of the initial Grand Masters edition of the Adeptus Titanicus Horus Heresy boxed set.

What's the point in reviewing a 2 year old kit? Well, first of all it completes the Manufactorum Imperialis review I just did, and the second reason, the Civitas kit didn't receive the coverage it deserves. It bears more potential than the regular, small buildings on the box or shop description show. For that reason this review will provide an introduction to the kit, that I'll continue with further build(ing)s using the bits and pieces provided from this kit.

Because the interesting aspect is, that the design of the Civitas Imperialis kit picks up the initial terrain design of the 1988 and 1989 boxed sets.

Adeptus Titanicus – Nemesis Warbringer Titan with Quake Cannon

Quite the eventful month for Adeptus Titanicus. Games Workshop released a new supplement, Shadow and Iron, along with a newly arranged starter kit for the game itself. But among the novelties are beside a Psi-Titan the Nemesis Warbringer Titan with Quake Cannon in AT-scale.

With the Nemesis Warbringer the role of a dedicated Titan Hunter was introduced to the lore of Warhammer 40.000 recently. The pattern was first shown by Forge World in 2018 and has no direct predecessor in the older lore. Yet, the Warbringer is described as being in service during the Great Crusade and fought against Titan-sized Xenos constructs and later on during the Horus Heresy.

Black Powder – Compagnies Franches de la Marine

The box of the Compagnies Franches de la Marine was published years ago by Warlord Games, but came into focus again with the publication of the black powder supplement "A Dark And Bloody Ground" for the French and Indian War. Various special offers from Warlord Games included this box, so it's worth a look.

Cruel Seas US PT boat

In the January 2019 issue of Wargames Illustrated (WI 375) they gave out a free sprue of the US PT Boats (or Torpedoes) for Cruel Seas, and cover an Elco and a Higgins PT boat each. The sprues are the same from the US Navy PT boat flotilla (included there 3 times). I have covered the other two plastic sprues for the game, the German S-Boats and British Vospers already here.

Wargames Illustrated - Issue 375 January 2019 Cruel Seas - US Pt Boat Sprue Cruel Seas - US Navy PT Boat Flotilla

In the mid of World War 2, the US Navy only had 3 squadrons of MTB (motor torpedo boats) or PT boats (patrol torpedo) as they were named in the US. The US Navy had access to the Vospers due to a licensing arrangement with Great Britain, and roughly 146 units were build for Lend Lease and were exported to Allied Powers like Canada, Britain and the Soviet Union. Yet only 50 were used by the Roval Navy and none were used by the US Navy.
