Heavy Field Car – Steyr 1500A for the DAK

With the first supply drop this year back in february of the Rubicon novelties, I did not only get my hands on some reinforcement for the British with the Morris C8 and a QF-25, but a nice heavy field car (at least that's the matching entry on EasyArmy) for my Afrikakorps as well with a Steyr 1500A/01.

I already have a few vehicles for the Afrikakorps, like the SdKfz 7, SdKfz 250 and 222, as well as captured gear, but as you need a lot of transports for the mobilized troops, so the more the merrier. The Steyr 1500A/01 light truck by Rubicon comes with two sprues and a few options among them an optional 2cm flak 38 gun, tarpaulin and MG. You could add some radio equipment from one of the upgrade kits and have a command car version of this, but that came with a more luxurious interior. Beyond that this kit covers the variant with hhe spare tyre inside or outside. I found the one with the open spare tyre more fitting and went with that.

Quick and easy build, quite the compact kit and as I wanted to use the seated crew by Perry Miniatures, I went with the folded tarpaulin.

It is not unusual to have some spare parts after building one of these kits and so it is the case with the Steyr. Not enough for a wreck, but some interesting parts for a conversion or garage.

As mentioned above I used the GWW20 and GWW15 seated sections to give more live to these vehicles and they fit like a charm.

The motor pool is as far as I can grasp it complete, I have lots of transport options along with several different armoured vehicles, so it is time to grab a sand coloured rattle can or fill up an airbrush and get going.
