Warhammer 40.000 – Dark Angels Deathwing Terminators / Knights / Command Squad
The Wrath of the Soul Forge King Box features a Dark Angel miniaturers set, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and which I actually had on the table in 2013 (!). For this reason, I'm giving the review an HD update, have adapted the pictures to the new format and adjusted the text in the appropriate places. Apart from that, it's "Throwback" today with the Deathwing Terminators, which can also be built as knights or a commando squad.
The multi unit box set, from which one of the above mentioned three units can be built, contains parts for 5 terminators as well as a companion and costs 50 Euros (the set has thus only become 5 EUR / 10% more expensive since the release). Besides a multi-page building instruction, 3 medium sized sprues, 5x 40mm round bases and one 25mm round base are included. Also included is the generic Space Marine decal sheet (for which there is actually no use, as the miniatures have no free areas on their shoulder armour or banners to attach them).
Blood Bowl – Treeman
To bring a little more variety to my Old World Alliance team and not just have a "human team with dwarves", I promptly acquired a treeman last year.
Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marine Brutalis Dreadnought
While we had our last review covering a Dreadnought last year as part of our Horus Heresy Age of Darkness coverage with the Contemptor Dreadnought plastic kit, today we want to cover the new Space Marine Brutalis Dreadnought, available from today via the Strike Force Agastus.
The new Primaris sized Dreadnoughts are a bit of a mixture of the classic dreadnought we know from the 90s is classified as Castraferrum Pattern Mark V Dreadnought, and the old Rogue Trader era Dreadnought Armour. The early designs, closer to robots than the walking sarcophagus they are nowadays, were picked up with the Contemptor pattern. If you take a look on the legs, you see they are more articulated as with the Castraferrum pattern and the design department went back to that.

Aha, so it's 2023, anything special coming up this year? Well, I'm turning 42 and as everyone knows, 42 is the answer to all questions! To all questions? At least to one question I have the answer: do I need more minis? No, not 42...
The Great Moderation is a concept that I have been following for several years now, where I limit my budget to 20,- € per month, with the goal to increase my painting output of existing miniatures and to limit the new purchases in my hobby. As it turned out, 240,- € per year is quite a lot if you already have a bunch of miniatures at home and the pile just grows and grows. For this reason, I plan to cut my budget again - ironically, my strategy has also found approval in the forum of the Tabletopwelt and a group project has emerged from it, so to speak, the not so anonymous round of addicted hobbyists, in which if possible no new purchases should be made. However, everyone receives 150, - € annual budget - for slip ups. This seems feasible to me, since I have everything here, within the projects I pursue
But before I move on to tackle one of the leftover projects, I want to paint the new acquisitions from last year first, because there is also a part remaining. In addition, I will set myself a fairly small annual goal in 2023, since my hobby time continues to melt due to my professional commitments.

It's that time again, a whole year has gone by and I have quite mixed feelings when I look back. From a hobby point of view, all in all, it actually went quite well. I have not reached my goal for the year, but I was and am close.
At the beginning of the year, I managed to paint the two remaining archers from the Corinthian part of my Mortal Gods army quite quickly. In fact, it went so smoothly that I would have loved to paint another troop right away, and I've assembled another group in the meantime.

As announced in November, I painted the last lineman of the humans for my Old World Alliance team. With that, half of a Blitz Bowl team is already done and I'm considering stepping on the gas again in January and paint the remaining three players so that the next time I'm at the club in Bedburg, I can field a completely painted team.
As you can see, the players look much better with the decals, as it breaks up the large green areas better. While I think the contrast between the light and dark green is sufficient by now, the decals add a certain polish to the overall look.
Warhammer Quest – Cursed City Nightwars
The first supplement for Warhammer Quest - Cursed City is available with Night Wars. It's been a long time since the initial release of Cursed City, so give me a brief moment to get you up to speed.
The Warhammer Quest series is an old range of miniature board games and started almost 30 years ago in 1995 with the original Warhammer Quest, when Games Workshop co-operated with companies like Hasbro to reach a broader audience for their range of Citadel miniatures. In 2017 Warhammer Quest returned, into the newly created narrative of Age of Sigmar, with Silver Tower in 2016 and Shadows over Hammerhal in 2017. In 2018 with Blackstone Fortress the Warhammer Quest series even received a 40k spin-off, that was quite successful and covered with multiple supplements that reintroduced many Rogue Trader elements into the game, like the Dread Ambull.
Warhammer 40,000 – Leagues of Votann Heroes
Now it is time for us to look into the kits included in the Leagues of Votann Army Set, beginning with the characters. There are two character choices included, even a named one, Ûthar the Destined (who can be build as a Kâhl) and an Einhyr Champion.
As we have no official prices on these as individual releases yet, there are only speculations. But we can assume that Ûthar will be around 31,50 EUR and the Einhyr Champion on the 27 EUR price tag. Each of them comes in a small sprue and covers the model itself with a few options. But more on that further below. We're not going to talk about special rules or point values (especially as the later might be changed in an errata).
Battlefleet Gothic – The Fleets
There are three projects, that I'll take on with my 3d printer. Epic 30,000 was already introduced with my Imperial Fists, and Battlefleet Gothic so far only teased with the terrain article.
I have talked about it in my parking lot theory article, and I don't have any space battle games. I do have naval battles with Black Seas, and faster, skirmishes with Cruel Seas (both only covering the miniature range, not bound to the rule set) in my collection, but as I said, no sci-fi space battles. Of course, there are plenty on the market. There is Full Thrust by Ground Zero Games (a game with an incredible support in the German community), there was / is Firestorm Armada by Spartan Games (Warcradle picked it up again), Star Wars Armada (which I somehow count more like a board game) and is OOP from my point of view. And then ... there was Battlefleet Gothic in 1999 - introduced via White Dwarf and later released as an boxed game.
Warhammer 40,000 – Leagues of Votann Army Set
Today is pre-order day for the army set of the latest addition of playable factions for Warhammer 40,000 - the Leagues of Votann. The Leagues of Votann are the successors of the old Squats in the new Grim Dark design. Less cartoony, less ZZ top biker gang, more sci-fi with a bit of nordic inspiration.
These army sets were introduced a while ago and cover a medium sized force of miniatures, around the size of the Combat Patrol sets, along with a limited edition cover variant of the Codex, tokens and data cards. All this is usually set at a RRP of 155 EUR. Compared to the Combat Patrols, of which the most are around 120 EUR, you pay the upgrade for the Codex (~40 EUR RRP).
