Genestealer Cult Easter Eggs!

Happy Easter! Today we cover a small easter egg with the Genestealer Cult. I got myself the Nexos, one of the characters released recently for the re-vamped army of Warhammer 40k.

Warhammer 40,000 - Genestealer Cult Nexos

As character models aren't produced in metal or finecast anymore (at least mostly, there are some exceptions like Commissar Severina Raine), but come as a blister pack with usually a plastic small sprue or two. The prices for these are horrendous 20 EUR and more (I come from a time, where we paid one digit or low two digit prices for non named characters). And to put that into perspective, you're just 2 Bucks short of a complete Underworlds warband, with two sprues 4 to 9 miniatures, a deck of cards etc., so if they were at 12-15 EUR for regular characters, 20 EUR for larger models, that would be more appropriate for my taste.

As for the Genestealers you have beside the Nexos, a Magus, a Locus, a Biophagus, a Sanctus and a Clamavus. That adds up to a total of 120 EUR (!) for 6 infantry sized characters... And of the 6 characters, only two have an alternative head sculpt and another two have an alternative (a single one each) weapon options for one hands. And that is for todays standards a broad selection, as most of these kits don't cover alternate or optional parts.

But why did I buy this model either way? That's due to the small easter egg it covers. The Nexos has a mobile combat map, that shows a battle field with a couple of buildings. What is special about these buildings? Well, see the second picture shows the easter eggs - the buildings are the HQ of Games Workshop in Nottingham / Lenton, showing the Warhammer World, Bugmans Bar and some office buildings.

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised, that they used that idea on a regular character and not for let's say a special miniature for Warhammer Fest or the anniversary of the Warhammer World - you know, instead of the 571st Primaris Captain / Ltn. And I really like the idea and that was the reason, why I justified the price for myself, as I see it more as a special miniature for my collection and less of a regular gaming miniature.

I still have the starting stock of a Genestealer Cult warband, added to the content of the Deathwatch Overkill a couple of selected miniatures from the Tooth & Claw set and the Starn's Disciples Kill Team. I even have some old, classic Genestealer Cultist, I'll see if they have still a place in that small Cult that I'm looking for. Set up as a Necromunda Gang / Kill Team, other sci-fi settings like Osprey's Rogue Stars (either as Miners or Cultists), Scrappers (as Gamma-Lords) or Tomorrows War.

I'll add a few models from these two plastic kits, from the Hybrids (they will be used for Ad-Mech and general underworld / hive fighters) and one of the Cawdor members will be the icon bearer of the cult. Very resourceful base for a couple of conversions, I'll keep you posted similar to how it did the Sequitor Inquisitor conversion.
