A look back
I've been to quite a few editions over the years, sometimes as a buyer, sometimes with my own table. The first Bitbox took place in 2012 and hooked me right away. In 2014 it was the fifth Bitbox, and I came home with a solid haul (Back from the 5th Bitbox). A year later, at the seventh edition, I was already calling it Germany's biggest tabletop flea market: plenty of parking outside, but inside it filled up fast despite the official 11am start.
In 2016 I had my own table and managed to sell off quite a bit. Franz was still hosting, with support from the Freebooter crew, and you could still clearly feel the aftershocks of the big GW layoff wave from the year before: plenty of promo material and staff exclusives changed hands. In 2017, the opening hours for the 11th Bitbox were trimmed a bit, but for the first time there was actually a queue at the door.
There was then a longer break in the early 2020s, and I've missed every reboot since 2024 due to scheduling conflicts, so I'm glad it's finally happening again. I'll definitely be dropping by, see you in Mülheim.
Thanks to the high density of stores in the Ruhr area, the former German Games Workshop headquarters being based in Düsseldorf, and a number of ex-GW staff among the exhibitors, the concentration of Warhammer products tends to be higher here, but so is your chance of snagging an oddity or a real collector's piece.
