Citadel Colour Contrast – Part 1

Games Workshop introduced with their Contrast Colours a new part of their already quite broad painting range. But where does it come from and what does it do?
Games Workshop - Citadel Colour
Among the early days of Games Workshop, when they shifted from being a distributor and publisher towards the miniature tabletop company we know today, Citadel Miniatures played an important part in this. And they did not only supply the assortment with miniatures, but paints and brushes too. Of course, back in the day we were far away from the broad range of glazes, technicals and such, but even those first paints made similar to the miniatures a bold first impression.

Into the weekend, on my way to TableTopia

As covered in the article on CONflict two weeks ago, I'll be taking a summer break on events after this weekends TableTopia. But you'll find the event coverage on the blog on sunday, maybe late saturday.

If you're following me on instagram or facebook, you might already know, that I have some promo material for Munchkin Warhammer 40k, that I recently reviewed on the here. Pegasus Spiele sent me bookmarks and the For the Emperor cards. Want some? If you see me at a show or convention, ask me and I'll give them out as long as stock lasts. Beginning today at Aschaffenburg.

BLOOD BOWL – Journey of the Maulers: Wanderleagues

As the third lineplayer paintwise doesn't offer anything new compared to the other two, I'll talk a bit about my Wanderleague system today, but more about that in a moment. I've tried a little something on Gorhuk the Smelly. On the one hand, I'm just starting to love the color scheme of keeping the clothes completely in black and the armor in yellow, on the other hand I wanted to do something new and tried painting the logo on the side of the helmet, just to see how it would look. That turned out pretty well so far and I think the other players will get the team logo painted onto the side of their helmets as well over the course of time.

Adeptus Titanicus – Titan bases

In december of last year I did a solid theme week on Adeptus Titanicus. I covered the two Warlord Battle Titans, the Reaver Battle Titan in both variants as well.

They stand proud and tall, I've just ordered a box of Questoris Knights and Cerastus Knights, and can't wait for the Acastus Knight, that was teasered on Warhammer Fest.

BLOOD BOWL – Journey of the Maulers: Old Blood

The team's four Blitzers all have an individual history and when I looked through the old background snippets some time ago, I just realized how much character the most offensive part of the team had.

Borag Oldblood is the team's oldest player and by the way, the only remaining player of the original squad, long before the Maulers rose to fame for the first time. All other players have since been replaced by better ones, traded in favor of more lucrative contracts on the transfer market, or have simply died in the course of their careers.

Back to the Bunker

Picking up a classic, Back to the Future, I bought the bundle blister Heroes 4 by Crooked Dice at Salute last year covering a not-Marty-McFly and not-Michael Knight (the later of course has nothing to do with BTTF). As I thought these would make a great addition to Zombie Survivors.

BLOOD BOWL – Journey of the Maulers: From fan to player

In the background of the Maulers story, I mentioned that there was a tryout and those of you who have followed the Journey of the Maulers so far, will notice that the following two players are Rikoth and Rotfang. I always like to give the minis a small characterization which is kept open enough to expand it over time.

The two are the first real repaints and I'm pretty happy with the result. When I painted them, I was't quite sure yet with the color scheme. Although I had chosen my main colors, the overall picture of the figures can change quickly by simply painting them on different places. For the fans, that was't a big deal, because they do not need a consistent image, but since Blood Bowl is vagueky based on American Football, the recognition value lies in a somewhat uniformous look of the players clothing.

As you can tell by the colors, I've only added some slight variations.

Modern Combat – Modern Tanks M1A2 Abrams

As I had quite a good impression of the Tamiya kits in the past, and the 1:48 scale vehicles fit well with larger 28-32mm models, I added to the 1:48 Tamiya HUMVEEs and Black Scorpion's Last Patrol a M1A2 Abrams.

The kit is usually priced around 26-30 EUR and casted in sand yellow plastic. The kit is spread across multiple sprues, giving Tamiya the opportunity to use them in different sets / variants. In addition to the decal sheet, there is an a lead bar to up the weight of the tank.

I’ve ordered at Warb … Dark Peak … forget it, I bought Footsore Miniatures

After a name and brand bickering, that I first thought was an April fools joke, Footsore Miniatures - who took over Musketeer Miniatures back in the day, came back to their name. With Gangs of Rome, they went with the name of Warbanner and recently Games Workshop got in touch with them, as Warbanner would be to similar to Warhammer, and therefore not be used in wargaming to promote miniatures. As that would be a fight nobody could win in the business, they complied and renamed themself to Dark Peak Games, just to receive another letter by Peak games, that that name was off limit. So they went back to Footsore.

As I said, I thought that this was an April fools joke, if you'd wrote this as a story line, readers would tell you that its absolutely ridicolous.

Footsore adds a special miniature to their orders, if you place an order of 20 GBP or more. That model changes every month or two and I put up an order last month.
