Warhammer 40,000 – Chaos Space Marines Vashtorr the Arkifane

As part of the Wrath of the Soul Forge King boxed set Games Workshop introduces a new character for the Chaos Space Marines - Vashtorr the Arkifane.

Warhammer 40,000 - Wrath of the Soul Forge King

He is part of the Arks of Omen storyline, which introduces him as a powerful Daemon and ruler of the Forge of Souls.  He commands his own army, the Cult of the Arkifane, which has no specific allegiance to any Chaos God, but more Chaos Undivided with a Dark Mechanicum proximity.

Blood Bowl – Mordheim Marauders Part 3

Near completion! I'm very happy to announce this. I made significant progress on the Mordheim Marauders, after the last update mid-February. A second wash on the long fur on the beast men. And let that thoroughly dry.

After that, I added the second highlights to the miniatures, very close to what I did with my Chaos warband.

Blood Bowl – 1994s Chaos All-Stars Team

I've talked about the start of a new league franchise, and while the team owners are battling over which Chaos team will start in the new CBL (Chaosbunker Bloodbowl League), let's see how the roster is set up.

The league is set up around the miniatures from the 3rd edition of Blood Bowl, which was released in 1994 and partially updated beginning in the 2000's. Blood Bowl was a side-game produced by Games Workshop directly back in the day, later moved to Fanatic Games / Specialist Games and nowadays split between Games Workshop and Forge World.

The initial White Dwarf issue was UK Issue #174 in April 1994, to introduce the new boxed starter game and retiring the 1987 boxed set, that was quite popular, covered plastic miniatures, had an astrogranite matchfield and even a Dungeon Bowl supplement, that added even more plastic miniatures to the game.

Somewhen back a lot of years ago, I got one of these for my collection, but during slimming down my stock I handed it over to my oldest wargaming buddy Indigo. But one item, that I'll always cherish is my first ever wargaming boxed set, a german copy of the Blood Bowl boxed set, that I still own. I managed to keep it complete, yet a bit beaten around the edges, but hey, it's in my collection for 25 years and the components used over and over again.

Chaosbunker Daddies – Sport is a killer! Block 1

It took me exactly 29 days and therefore I am the slowest of the four Chaosbunker Daddies, but the first block is completed!

Realm of Chaos – Hooves and Fur Part V

It is day 16 of the summer project's first block - 15 days to go and what is the current status quo?

Well, after applying the base colours in the last step, Hooves and Fur Part IV, so step 1.5 would be clean up and washes.

Realm of Chaos – Sorting the warbands

While sorting out, what to sell and what to keep, I took a long deep look at my Realm of Chaos miniatures from the Oldhammer to early Midhammer era.

Realm of Chaos Realm of Chaos - Champions of Chaos Stripping Paint

To me, the core of these miniatures, especially the Champions of the different chaos gods, are like the crown jewels of my collection. But just keeping them for the sake of having them, would be a waste. Similar to a car, they are build to be driven, and as such are miniatures not to be kept in blisters, they should be painted and in some cases to be used in games. Why do these old miniatures fascinate me so much? I got into the topic of Oldhammer a few times in the past, once in 2016 when I had my 20th anniversary with the wargaming hobby, and another time a bit more focused on the 2nd Edition of Warhammer 40,000.

2nd Advent Weekender

St. Nicolas was busy this week, and no I am not talking about the holy Nick Cage, and put a couple of things into the stockings.

I managed to acquire some Hobgoblins from the Chaos Dwarf Blood Bowl team at the Games n' Dice demo day. And my first intention was to use that as a base to start from, but I saw a complete team, incl. those special positionals (even the blunderbuss) and went for it. It is a higher invest, but I saved a lot of time and postage on smaller batches and individual orders.

Long story short, I have 15 hobgoblins that I'd like to sell. So drop me a message if you're interested.

Oldhammer Chaos Space Marine Squads

To add more core troops to the project, I decided to go get two squads of Chaos Space Marines to support the CSM Terminators. When they were released in 1996 (a bit later 1997 in Germany), the regular "goons" of the Chaos Space Marines were available as metal and plastic kit, at the same time.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Warcry – Part 1

Today is the release day of the newest boxed set within the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Universe - Warcry! Warcry is a skirmish game with smaller warbands and is offered as a starter set including terrain and gaming board, similar to what we know from Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team.

The box the starter set comes in is one huge beast, as you can see above and weights around 9 lb / 4 kg. It is quite thick and stable, similar to the Speed Freeks boxed set. It is twice as high as the regular Warhammer Age of Sigmar starter kits as you can see in the picture below. If you have ordered your copy in a Warhammer store or local gaming store, you might be in for treat, as they have several different promotional items, like these buttons and wristbands (as long as stock lasts).

Oldhammer Chaos Space Marine Terminators

Back in July 1996 in the English speaking market the Codex Chaos was released, and with it the poster-boy of Chaos, Abaddon the Despoiler. A bit later, in february 1997 in Germany.

Warhammer 40,000 - Chaos Codex 2nd Edition

The release was followed by the Chaos Terminators in blisters and a boxed set of 5 in August 1996, followed by the special weapon blisters a month later and the champion in october. For Germany that all came postponed, in march and april 1997. If you want to look up these novelties in the White Dwarf, that would be the german issues #14 to 16 or UK/OZ issue #199 to 201. The English magazine is much thicker and covers additional content.
