Journey of the Maulers – Creating character

Those who have followed the previous articles of the Journey of the Maulers series will have noticed that I value the characterisation of the minis a lot, both visually and narratively. I'm following a relatively simple scheme, but it's based on a lot of prior consideration. When I write a story for one of the players, I try to keep it as compact as possible. Just describing the framework of the character makes sense for several reasons. On one hand, the reader has the possibility to fill the gaps with his own imagination and perception, on the other hand, you have the possibility to extend the background over time to your liking.

2nd Advent Weekender

St. Nicolas was busy this week, and no I am not talking about the holy Nick Cage, and put a couple of things into the stockings.

I managed to acquire some Hobgoblins from the Chaos Dwarf Blood Bowl team at the Games n' Dice demo day. And my first intention was to use that as a base to start from, but I saw a complete team, incl. those special positionals (even the blunderbuss) and went for it. It is a higher invest, but I saved a lot of time and postage on smaller batches and individual orders.

Long story short, I have 15 hobgoblins that I'd like to sell. So drop me a message if you're interested.

More Paint stripping and equipment stock up

A while ago I stocked up on equipment, to continue the work on the miniatures. Somebody gave me the hint to use nithril gloves instead of the regular latex ones. They are a bit more sturdy, that is clear, but the aceton dissolves the glove and an black oily smear goes onto the miniatures and tools, as you can see from the head of the tooth brush.

Journey of the Maulers: Strategic painting

Four. Only four models left. As I mentioned in the last article, this was the point where I failed the last time, because I simply ran out of motivation. Well, as you can see from this Blackorc, I was able to get my act together, thanks to the tips and support I received from the community. Reason enough to talk a little bit about it.

Journey of the Maulers - Golden Vultures vs. Mauler

Suggestion number 1 was to divide the painting into small bites and to invest half an hour or so during the day. This is generally a good idea and a strategy that I have followed before. The big advantage of this technique is that you can make good progress on boring areas, i.e. very large surfaces that have the same color or need several layers of base color, without getting bored because you sit at it for too long.

Christmas Weekender 2019

It's December 2019, only 4 weeks 'til christmas and the year is nearly over. So what's cooking in the remaining weeks until 2020?

Of course the project of Abaddon's Black Legion will continue, as it is the most compact of the Oldhammer / Midhammer / Retroprojects and therefore should be the easiest to finish.

Oldhammer Chaos Space Marine Squads

To add more core troops to the project, I decided to go get two squads of Chaos Space Marines to support the CSM Terminators. When they were released in 1996 (a bit later 1997 in Germany), the regular "goons" of the Chaos Space Marines were available as metal and plastic kit, at the same time.

Baron’s War Kickstarter arrived

Andy Hobday, one of the heads behind Footsore Miniatures got together with Paul Hicks and started a crowdfunding campaign in September for the first Baron's War.

Barons War - Kickstarter Campaign

The first Baron's War, 1215 to 1217, was another english civil war. And due to the timeline and style of the miniatures interesting for me, as I could use some of the models for my Crusader project, that I mainly source from Perry Miniatures former Norman / now Crusades range.

Oldhammer Undeads by The Assault Group / White Knight

In summer I traded some of my Rogue Trader Genestealer Cults in and got a small Oldhammer undead warband. I was looking into the gaps, that I was missing, for example some Zombies to fill up the ranks.

But old doesn't mean good in automatically, and the old Zombies from the early and mid 90s didn't really appeal to me. So I went out and looked around, what miniatures would be a good replacement or stand in.

Dino(‘s) Crisis 2019

Two weeks ago, on November 9th and 10th to be exact, Crisis took place in Antwerp, hosted by the Tinsoldiers of Antwerp. Dennis had already visited Crisis many times and delivered a good coverage in Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of his article series. For me, on the other hand, it should be a premiere, both for the event and for the city. Therefore you'll only get a subjective view of the weekend from me.

I've been to Belgium before, but that was more than 20 years ago and back then it was a visit to the capital Brussels. We arrived one evening sooner in order to save ourselves as much stress as possible on the trip there, but also in order to take some impressions of the city with us. We also took part in a small tradition that I didn't know it was bound to happen until I was right in the middle of it.
