Looking forward to the Holidays
Christmas is near, the holidays have begun and I will spend my two weeks off with the family as well as with the hobby.
I got a little christmas present from Radaddel. Thank you very much, always a satisfied customer and with this little bonus towards the end of the year more than ever. Some sweets, a small jar of model snow and a Citadel Painting Handle. Those are very useful and it is always practical to have one more to spare.
Filling up the wargame library with Freebooter
Around the Spiel toy fair Freebooter Miniatures released the second edition of their pirate skirmish, Freebooters Fate. If you have visited Freebooter at shows in the past, you know it is always worth a visit. The crew is dressed like sailors and pirates, they have treats (chocolate gold coins, gummy bears and such) and often enough special show offers.
As this was a huge release, with the updated core game, they brought along new gaming tables, featuring a lot of the now combined rules. The new edition rulebook features a lot of rules, that were spread across multiple books in the past.
Blood Bowl – Skycastle Titans Part 4
The moment I thought, "Okay, now I'll just be playing with the team", the painting contest thetacklezone.net grabbed my attention. The site is still fresh and has the option to find tournaments and leagues for Blood Bowl as well as an artwork section where you can take a look at some beautifully painted teams and also the five winners of the painting competition.
I didn't think that I would actually place on the podium, but that's how Bunkerboss Dennis actually got a new Dark Elf team, as each winner got one of the new teams, while I myself got the motivation for another game with the Skycastle Titans out of it. I played against the Averland Avengers from Chefoberboss. Jens is particularly known in the German-speaking tabletop community for his YouTube channel, on which there is numerous videos about the hobby.
Warhammer Underworlds Organised Play 2019
I covered the Organised Play box from the first season of Underworlds, and was able to get my hands on the new 2019 set that was released to support Nightvault. These sets are available to stores as event support sets, and the content should be used as prize support for instore events, like tournaments or leagues.
And please let me point this out again, as there were questions about it on the last article. These boxes are meant to be acquired by store owners to support their tournaments and similar events, and not to be sold to players / consumers directly. The items in these boxes are intended to be won, not bought.
BLOOD BOWL – Journey of the Maulers: Mascots
It is one of my habits to give each of my coaches a motivational mascot and since I have a fable for Squigs, it was once again a specimen of the red-skinned maws on two legs. The model is from Goblin Guild and captures the atmosphere of Blood Bowl quite wonderfully.
Returning to Warhammer Underworlds
I return to Nightvault, or better said, the Warhammer Underworld series. I did an unboxing of the Organised Play 2018 boxed set for the first season Shadespire a couple of days ago. As these were re-packed for the several waves, I could only show you the alternate artwork cards for Steelheart's Champions and Garrek's Reavers. I managed to trade Spiteclaws Swarms alternate artwork cards and would like to show them to you here.
Warhammer Koblenz First Store Anniversary
Games Workshop released an article on the updates on the store anniversaries on Warhammer Community and the local Warhammer Store here in Koblenz will have their Store Anniversary party next friday on November 16th.
It is kind of interesting to have an "actual" Warhammer store around the corner. I've seen the coverage of the events in the old White Dwarfs and some of the goodies or store exclusives pop-up on bring & buys or eBay (sometimes for ridiculous prices). And as the store is right around the corner from where I work, I can drop by and pick up some of these things. Just got the posters for Blackstone Fortress a couple of days ago.
One thing to understand is the slightly "odd" choosing of the date. There is a store opening party, I've covered that one on here as well, and then 3 months after that, the birthday party is held. So, a couple of items that were already available at the store opening, but would normally available not until the actual anniversary were these two, that will be up for sale again.
BLOOD BOWL – Journey of the Maulers: Tutorial
Two more recycled Warhammer figures made it into the fan block. While I mostly repositioned parts on the other models, this time I modified one of the Orcs with a few parts that were still in my bits box. As I like to use Blackorc elbow pads on other models as shoulder armor, I still had some armored gloves left over and gave the former standard bearer a metal mitten. Although I put him in the crowd of fans, the model actually represents one of the former players, travelling with them while the team rebuilds.
Warhammer Underworlds Organised Play 2018
When I published the reviews on the first season of Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire and the second season Nightvault, I already mentioned that Games Workshop strongly supports the rule set with their own website, lot of content and event support. Among this content, there are organised play sets.
I've seen some people that have participated in larger events, posted their haul on facebook or gaming groups. But you do not need to participate in a Grand Clash (the large Underworlds tournaments) to be able to get your hands on some of the special material covered in the organised play sets.
BLOOD BOWL – Journey of the Maulers: Wannabes
More old Warhammer miniatures have gotten a stylish makeover and are now loyal fans of the Maulers. It is easy to see what effect the restauration of an old figure can have. I remember quite well that I didn't finish the musician's drums at the time because I felt burned out after more than twenty orcs in a row.
