Dino’s December 2022

As announced in November, I painted the last lineman of the humans for my Old World Alliance team. With that, half of a Blitz Bowl team is already done and I'm considering stepping on the gas again in January and paint the remaining three players so that the next time I'm at the club in Bedburg, I can field a completely painted team.

As you can see, the players look much better with the decals, as it breaks up the large green areas better. While I think the contrast between the light and dark green is sufficient by now, the decals add a certain polish to the overall look.

Battlefleet Gothic – Chaos Fleet Pt 3

With the miniatures set and mostly here, it is time to assemble my Chaos Fleet.

Battlefleet Gothic - MegaSonicPunch Prints

I got myself a drill and created inserts on those models, who didn't have any right away from the stl. If you're familiar with some editing programs like mesh mixer for example, you could modify your stls in a way, that they come with this right from the start. I intend to glue the flight bases to the models. If you use metal miniatures or heavier resin kits, using magnets might be an option. From my research there are multiple views on that topic, some players replace the plastic rods from their flight stands completely with brass rods.

HANS VIII – Starting the next round of the traveling tabletop box

Another instalment of HANS! went through here after April and as there were  no other chances for a bring & buy or other kind of browsing through Wargaming items lately, I gladly picked up the chance again.

Adeptus Titanicus – Legio Astraman Ad Arma Pt. V

Legio Astraman got magnetized in my mustering post for this army project, and as Legio Astraman is heavy on the Gatlings, I had to get these for my Warlord Titan. So the Macro Gatling Blasters got magnetized to give me options towards the Belicosa Volcano Guns.

And so did I with the shoulder armament, the paired Gatling Blasters, magnetized as well. Games Workshop / Forge World did a proper job on these, as you don't need to drill and they take 5 by 1 mm round magnets.

November 2022 review

Sorry for the delay, the change of month some kind of passed me - hobbywise, so here it is.

GrimDarkTerrain – Hermes Class Light Salvage Titan

Returning with my attention to Adeptus Titanicus, I am happy about the size of my maniples (so far) and the "only" thing, that I want to add to is the terrain. I have a subscription of GrimDarkTerrain for a while now, but my Anycubic Mono 4K is not the ideal hardware for printing terrain - at least not larger items and larger batches. This is one of the reasons, why I am happy that there are printing service with a merchant license for GrimDarkTerrain like Winterdyne (UK), MegaSonicPunch (Germany/EU) or Hangar81 (US).

Luckily, not every set Bronco designs is that large, and in February 2022 the Hermes Ripley was released as a monthly package.

Imperial Fists – Land Raider Proteus

There is this lovely project of Imperial Fists of the 2nd edition, and I was looking for something heavy to bring along. And back in the day, there was this heavy chunk of plastic, the original Land Raider battle tank. While originally released as a pack of two for Rogue Trader, this tank was repacked as a single kit for the 2nd edition and received a nice vehicle data card, released in the Dark Millenium supplement to the starter kit.

But I am honest. The design of this kit didn't age well, compared to the Rhino for example and the updates to the tanks based upon the Rhino chassis made them last quite long. A bit different to the Land Raider who got a replacement with the 3rd edition and a new plastic kit. The new Mk III / Phobos Pattern Land Raider was too distinguished from the 90s design, so this would be out of the question. While I struggled to become acquainted with the old design, a second problem - the price of the OOP kit took that decision from my hand. You can barely pick up one for less than 50 EUR, more likely 70 EUR and above and there's usually something missing. And replacing those parts is rather tricky.

Stargrave – a Star Wars Story isn’t shattered

So, while I'm preparing my own Star Wars skirmish on a squad based level with Stargrave ruleset - using the platoon level range of Star Wars Legion miniatures and after market 3d print files, Atomic Mass Games announced that they will release Stars Wars - Shatterpoint, a squad based skirmish.

But as I pointed out, why Star Wars is a problematic tabletop IP and why FFG/AMG/Asmodee isn't doing that kind of a proper job supporting SWL, I came across this meme and it really brings it to the point. From the first looks it is a white label of Marvel Crisis Protocol, so even from a Star Wars skirmish point of view, this seems to be a very high fantasty skirmsh-scale hero brawler. On top, with yet another scale, to cut of the repurpose of miniatures from other ranges.

Dino’s October 2022

Damn, it happened again - I'm late! Well, I can't really complain, professionally things are going well, but I'm afraid I won't be able to keep my goal for the year. Sure, I'll keep trying, of course, but before I move on to the next project, namely Oathmark, I think I'll have to declare my annual goal as a milestone.

Speaking of which, Robert, a.k.a. Wolpertinger, with whom I've been doing regular painting sessions via Discord lately, converted an old river troll for my Oathmark army.

Necromunda – Promethium Tanks and Refuelling Station

The latest Necromunda plastic kits revisit the Cargo 8 Ridgehauler and its options for trailers, adding a new type of container for both the trailer and a terrain piece with the Promethium Tanks and the Refuelling Station.

Necromunda - Promethium Tanks and Refuelling Station

Both kits are available for pre-order from today (November 5th) and will be delivered starting the saturday after that. As the Book of the Outlands previewed some of the (empty) trailers and various load outs, these kits have their rules included in this book (pg. 76 ff.) as well as an addendum to the assembly instructions of the refuelling station (not the cargo-8 trailer). The rules in the book only cover Promethium Tanks as cargo-load of the Cargo-8, the rules for using the Refuelling Stations are only covered inside the kit. We're going to build both, the Promethium Tanks On Cargo-8 Ridgehauler Trailer and the Promethium Tanks Refuelling Station, beginning with the trailer.
