Dino’s November 2022

Yes, the recap for December is also almost due and yet I'm only now showing you my recap for November - well, I'll try to explain....

Hobbywise, I started a lot this month, hoping to use December to reach my goal for the year. Among other things, I started the third Blood Bowl player to have at least half the Blitz Bowl team completely painted.

HANS VIII – Starting the next round of the traveling tabletop box

Another instalment of HANS! went through here after April and as there were  no other chances for a bring & buy or other kind of browsing through Wargaming items lately, I gladly picked up the chance again.

HarrowHyrst – Treeman and Griffin

Today for something special. It has been a while, since I've been gifted miniatures by my parents (actually, the very first Warhammer box I owned, was the Blood Bowl set for Christmas in the 90s), so I was very happy and surprised, when I received these for my 38th birthday back in September. Heartwood, the Treeman Elder, and Mockmoon, the Griffin, by HarrowHyrst Miniatures.

But why am I so excited about these miniatures by HarrowHyrst? Well, HarrowHyrst is not just any miniature company capturing the vibe of Middlehammer, because the person behind HarrowHyrst coined that era - Trish Carden (Morrison). She sculpted a lot of the larger creatures, monsters and mounts of many heroes of the Old World, not just in the era of Middlehammer but in the early 00s and for Forge World's Warhammer Forge as well. And "before" that, Trish, together with Aly Morrison, founded Marauder Miniatures in 1988, whose range were sold and later integrated by Citadel Miniatures.

Dino’s October 2022

Damn, it happened again - I'm late! Well, I can't really complain, professionally things are going well, but I'm afraid I won't be able to keep my goal for the year. Sure, I'll keep trying, of course, but before I move on to the next project, namely Oathmark, I think I'll have to declare my annual goal as a milestone.

Speaking of which, Robert, a.k.a. Wolpertinger, with whom I've been doing regular painting sessions via Discord lately, converted an old river troll for my Oathmark army.

October 2022 review

While I’m writing this sum up of October, my head is all in for the weekend. It the first weekend in November, this means CRISIS!

Tinsoldiers of Antwerp - CRISIS 2019 Tinsoldiers of Antwerp - CRISIS 2019 Crisis 2019 - Tinsoldiers of Antwerp

For a decade I’m travelling to Antwerp for the biggest wargaming event on the European mainland. We booked our hotels etc. in summer, with the option to cancel it – if something comes across. And unfortunately, something did. CRISIS as a show won’t happen, as multiple circumstances would make a profitable show very unlikely. But the Too Fat Lardies got together with the TinSoldiers of Antwerp and arranged LARDwerp to happen the same day. So we kept our bookings and I’ll share our wargamers weekend on here along with my other social media channels (If you’re just into the wargaming part follow CHAOSBUNKER, and if you like drinks, food and travel as well, follow me on DennisMit2N).

Middlehammer – Skaven Rat Swarms

Since I've ordered and covered the Made-to-Order classic Skaven characters from the Middlehammer era of the 90s, I was able to get my hands on some original rat people from Citadel to build a small skirmish warband around.

This gives me the choice to have two small packs of vermin warriors, led by a champion each and some characters. But as we are talking Skaven here, we need some rat swarms. In the classic Warhammer Fantasy battles, you had giant rats that you put on 40 x 40mm square bases. The ones shown in the second picture are the later 6th-ish edition rats, a bit more in line with each other compared to the earlier Oldhammer ones, and of course more variety than the swarm pack plastic ones.

AMMO – How to paint miniatures for Wargames

AMMO by Mig Jimenez is a Spanish company that produces paints and painting accessories, or ammunition for modelling as they describe it themself. Their main focus is model building, mostly historical topics and in this area, it is very common to have resource books that cover certain time frames, conflicts, specific forces or vehicles.

For some of my projects, for example Bolt Action, I do own various resource books that cover paint tables, drawings and pictures of vehicles and so on. In fictional context, you mostly have the army books or rule books of the games that you play to choose from. And some other books cover techniques like airbrushing etc., and this book - How to Paint Miniatures for Wargames - covers exactly this, how to paint miniatures for tabletop wargaming.

Dino’s September 2022

Woooow, it seems like only a blink of an eye ago that I wrote the article for August, and now the first week of October is also over before I could write just the first letter for my September summary!!!! I've mentioned it before, my new job is stretching me pretty thin, and I have to say, I'm really enjoying it - a feeling I didn't have with my last three employers.

But as the saying goes, "Good things take their time" and also in the hobby I always move according to this motto. So in the past month I have actually not been able to finish painting a single model, except for this terrain piece from Sarissa that I have decorated with a model from Footsore Miniatures as a statue.

Warhammer Quest – Cursed City Nightwars

The first supplement for Warhammer Quest - Cursed City is available with Night Wars. It's been a long time since the initial release of Cursed City, so give me a brief moment to get you up to speed.

Warhammer Quest - Cursed City Night Wars

The Warhammer Quest series is an old range of miniature board games and started almost 30 years ago in 1995 with the original Warhammer Quest, when Games Workshop co-operated with companies like Hasbro to reach a broader audience for their range of Citadel miniatures. In 2017 Warhammer Quest returned, into the newly created narrative of Age of Sigmar, with Silver Tower in 2016 and Shadows over Hammerhal in 2017. In 2018 with Blackstone Fortress the Warhammer Quest series even received a 40k spin-off, that was quite successful and covered with multiple supplements that reintroduced many Rogue Trader elements into the game, like the Dread Ambull.
