Mortal Gods – Promachos

Finally! The Promachos from Footsore Miniatures, and with it the last model of my 300 point force of Corinthians and Adventurers, is painted! I can't put into words how much fun it was to paint this model. This model just screams Titan Quest and I would have no problem painting another one.

Nidderau is back on the schedule! This weekend (we've been there yesterday) the Tabletop Club Rhein-Main hosted once again after a break the 8th Rhein Main Multiversum.

8th Rhein Main Multiversum 2022 8th Rhein Main Multiversum 2022

This time, due to the circumstances, the Rhein Main Multiversum was not as a convention but as an open gaming weekend (so without traders) to accomodate any (possible) restrictions and so on.

Blood Bowl Community Team – Part 1

"Apple groves as far as the eye can see." said <lineman 1>.

"What did you expect?" replied <thrower>. "Sauerapfel is known for that, after all. So stop grumbling, we'll get to more inhospitable places soon enough."

"Not to mention that we can't be picky at the moment anyway." Coach <name> intervened, clearly showing that his mood was dampened. His facial expressions were capable of filling entire books with descriptions of bad moods, and if the boys didn't know better, he could have been mistaken for a dwarf, about to collect his thoughts for an entry in the big Book of Grudges.

"We don't have the manpower!" he finally began and started talking himself into a rage, first quietly, then getting louder.

"We lack the match experience. We lack the money to compete in the better leagues. Hell, we lack just about everything to pass for a Blood Bowl team!".

Angrily, Coach <name> stood up and hurled a bucket that was sitting on the front deck of the ship. The vessel was a passenger ferry, with a large paddlewheel on the left and right sides of its hull keeping it in motion. The paddle wheels, in turn, gained their momentum from a so-called running crew, a couple of rather large guys who were constantly running faster or slower inside a smaller wheel that was located on the inside of the hull and connected to the outer wheel. The momentum of the throw carried the wooden bucket over the railing, causing the halfling, who was the captain of the ship, to shout loudly "That costs extra!" from the helm.

The ferry on the Reik now ran daily between the Moot and Averland. The area that passed from one county to the next was called the Aver Reach, and was worth passing through for many who were on their way to Zhufbar, the dwarven port city.

"Shove it!" yelled Coach <name>, flinging a gold coin he had hastily dug out of his pants at the halfling.

"I'd hire you as a player with that attitude to have the field teach you manners, but I can't even get rookies for those few pennies!" he spat after the captain.

"I'd do it," a voice suddenly sounded behind him.

The remaining players and Coach <name> turned around in surprise. It was one of the men from the running team who, while still running continuously in the wheel, had turned his head slightly and spoke to the team.

Another man sitting on a bench next to the wheel now stood up and walked to the wheel. He waved to the man who had just spoken and took his place as he left the wheel with an elegant leap.

"You want to play for Blood Bowl for the team?" laughed <lineman 1>, looking at the runner deprecatingly.

"At least I can move!" retorted <lineman 2>.

"That won't help you against a decent block either!" said <lineman 1> snarling, and even as he spoke he lashed out, intending to put a haymaker between <lineman 2>'s eyes.

The latter, however, dived and jammed his fist into the pit of <lineman 1>'s stomach with an uppercut, followed by a haymaker against the latter's chin. <lineman 1> slumped to the ground, battered prone.

   "Like this?" asked <lineman 2>.

   Coach <name> stepped closer.

"Tell you what, kid. If you can do that on the field, I'll give you free food and lodging, and if you can make it to the end of the season, I'll give you fifty."

"Fifty gold coins for just one year?" asked <lineman 2> in amazement.

An amused grin appeared on the faces of the other players.

"My boy," Coach <name> now said with an auspicious undertone "I'm talking about fifty thousand...!".

As you can see, the background story without names lacks a bit of bite - well, it wouldn't be hard for me to come up with some names, but actually there is a reason for the placeholders. Because here should be YOUR names, or at least a modified version of them.

At the beginning of the year I expressed my intention to keep more contact to the tabletop community. Since I would like to paint my stock slowly but surely, the idea came up to use one of the Blood Bowl teams, which have not yet been assembled in my house, for this project. No sooner said than done. In a vote the participants have decided for an Old World Alliance Team.

Trouble in Tollonia – Oathmark Campaign Part 1

Holey kamoley, what have I done!? After I played a game of Rangers of Shadow Deep at the beginning of the year with Nico and Andreas, two buddies from the forum of the Tabletopwelt, and watched a lot of Oathmark videos on YouTube, I had the idea to raise a small Oathmark force from the resulting background.

While I was talking about it with Nico via Discord, the idea kept mutating until the thought came up to maybe play an Oathmark campaign for a weekend. The basic idea was good: paint the existing pool of minis and make an army out of it, while they would also work in several other systems. Target date for completion? Fall 2023, possibly in October when there's less going on.

In the near future I'll talk about this topic more often, but for today I'll introduce you to my Goblin Champion. My force consists of a necromancer and her undead henchmen, as well as the lowly goblins pressed into service. In my eyes, they excellently fulfill the classic role of henchmen and cannon fodder that kick the bucket in droves in every movie scene. On the other hand, their numbers are usually so large and their sly deviousness so pronounced that they don't seem insignificant.

In Oathmark, Goblin Champions are not quite so frail. They are characterized as evil-eyed bullies who like to emphasize their words with a whip. That's the kind of bully I wanted to portray with this champion.

Dino’s August 2022

The month in which the tabletop activities normally decrease due to the good weather has also left its mark on me - but for other reasons. My new job is quite demanding and involves a lot of travel, so I didn't get to sit down at the painting table very often.

Instead, I used my increased travel activity and worked on my goal for the year, namely to keep in touch with the community and play a few games. I had the opportunity to visit two clubs in the vicinity of my customer and spent several times with the Bedburgers.

Frostgrave: A Sword and Sorcery Adventure – Part 7

Somewhat surprisingly, I painted the thief for my Frostgrave warband last month. I can't say myself what drove me there, because usually it takes me quite a while to paint a mini in my style, especially since I'm not the fastest painter anyway.

But somehow I felt like it and the thief, I think I'll call him Garrett, just whizzed across my painting table. Probably the limited color palette has also contributed a lot to that, something that. I probably remember this for an upcoming Oathmark project.

Blood Bowl – BlitzBowl Ultimate Edition

Blood Bowl has a very special place on this blog. We've covered multiple teams on here, the Mordheim Marauders, Golden Vultures or Morks Maulers and Dino and I even had the chance to give the older versions of this game a try. So, when Games Workshop offered me the chance to cover the Ultimate Edition of Blitz Bowl in a review, I happily agreed.

The Ultimate Edition of Blitz Bowl released this year, updates initial the 2018s release (and later update with a second season in 2020) and basically the third season of the game. Blitz Bowl is meant to be an introduction game  - self enclosed board game - to reach out to new players, therefore it is sold via stores like Barnes & Nobles or Thalia.

Blood Bowl – Mordheim Marauders Part 6

Ladies and Gentlemen, let's get ready to fumble! The first team of the CBL is ready - the Mordheim Marauders are here!

Blood Bowl - Mordheim Marauders

I have prepared a full roster for the Chaos Team, with 16 players, covering 10 beastmen and 4 chaos warriors incl. mutations, as well as two Star Players, using the classic miniatures from the 1994s Chaos All Stars team, released for the 3rd edition of Blood Bowl.

July 2022 review

Welcome to August and let's take a look back on last month and the overall update in the bunker.

I treated myself with another Space Marine Action Figure, this time the Todd McFarlane Chaos Space Marine in the Artist Proof  variant, to paint yourself. Along with some 3d printed bits, this should be a cool looking miniature once painted.
