Old West – Moving to Colorado
I have been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 in late summer and what shall I say, it really got me hooked again with the Old West. I already own a complete collection, with a posse or two even painted up and am pretty rounded with the latest addition in 2020 with Boothill Miniatures.
I have a few rule sets for the stock as well, favouring Warhammer Historicals Legends of the Old West, but I picked up Shootout in Dingstown at Rhein-Main-Multiversum this year. And of course there is always Osprey, in this case just very horror / pulp with Dracula's America.
Troublemaker Games – 6-8mm Terrain
We revisit the range of Troublemaker Games after covering their building and ruins range, it received an elaborated update with a couple new plastic sprues, stls and even printed items. As I'm heading into 6-8mm with my Epic 30k project (and the adjacent topics of Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica Imperialis) this was good reason, to give these new additions another look.
The Troublemaker range is sold via Vanguard Miniatures and shipped from the UK. Currently the don't offer IOSS for EU customers, but they offer a shipping cost cap of maximum 10 GBP.
Battlefleet Gothic – Terrain Building
While I'm still deciding on which STLs to use for my Battlefleet Gothic Fleets, I already got my hands on some upcoming terrain pieces. You can use flat terrain with BFG, it works fine, especially as line of sight is measured from pin to pin of the bases, and you don't actually need the height of the terrain pieces.
Yet, I prefer some three dimensional pieces, with the huge question going for domes or spheres on bases. I went for a mixture, the large planet would be a dome, as it would simply be too big to store and to handle on the table, and the others would be spheres on bases. I got myself a set of mixed sized and a large sphere made from two halves.
I actually split the set, as I wouldn't need that many planets and could share the remainder with a wargaming buddy. The two sets I got, set me back 15 EURs, for a two halves 20 cm (8 inch), two 6 cm (~2,5 inch), four 5 cm (2 inch), six 4 cm (~1,6 inch) and eight 3 cm (~1,2 inch) spheres. You probably can get these at your local art store, just make sure you're not overcharged. As you can see, I did a spread of the pieces I keep, along with a brief scale comparison with one of the Chaos Cruisers by Italian Moose.

Last month I asked you how the ease of the Covid measures had affected your hobby life and I received some interesting feedback. Overall, I could see from your feedback that the different views on the measures have partly led to a small split in the hobby community, between the more cautious and the less cautious hobbyists. In general, however, the changes have led to more contacts among those who already checked their health status before each visit anyway, and the number of tabletop games in private has increased again.
In my opinion, it is encouraging that we as hobbyists still show enough common sense, where we also pay attention to our fellow man and not only to ourselves. It shows that integrity and consideration are still present and lived in our hobby. Altogether the contacts have strengthened again somewhat - above all however online. During the period of increased precautions, the online community in particular proved to be a strong anchor for us hobbyists, so that most social contacts could be maintained.
In this regard, I also have to say a few words of thanks to the people who are always encouraging me to push my projects further in the Tabletopwelt forum in my thread and my known group of Tabletop Daddies. So I managed to paint the last hoplite for the Corinthians group that was left for Mortal Gods.
Warhammer 40,000 – Battlezone: Fronteris – STC Hab-Bunker and Stockades
Let's look into the final plastic kit of the Nachmund bundle, the Fronteris STC Hab-Bunker and Stockades.
With a price tag of 65 EUR or 50 GBP (~60 EUR) it is the most expensive of the three "new" (the STC Hab-Bunker is a re-release from the Sector Fronteris) plastic kits from the extended Fronteris range. Like the others, the Hab-Bunker and Stockades don't cover the rules for Warhammer 40,000 with the instructions, but the terrain traits and additional Narrative Play abilities are part of the War Zone Nachmund: Vigilus Alone campaign supplement that is available separately for 42,50 EUR.
Warhammer 40,000 – Battlezone: Fronteris – Battlefield
The final piece from the Nachmund bundle is the Fronteris Battlefield for Warhammer 40,000.
At a price of 45 EUR or 35 GBP (~42 EUR) RRP, you receive two double sided battlefields made from card board. Each is measuring 30" by 22.4" (76cm x 56.8cm) and 1.5mm thick. These are the new measurements for Warhammer 40,000 games, not the classic 4 by 6 feet anymore.
Warhammer 40,000 – Battlezone: Fronteris – Vox-Antenna and Auspex Shrine
Next individual review from the Nachmund bundle is the Vox-Antenna and Auspex Shrine.
Like the Fronteris Landing Pad, this is a 28mm scale terrain set has a RRP of 55 EUR or 42,50 GBP (~51 EUR). It covers two large sprues, each covering one of the items shown on the packaging. The assembly instructions don't cover a data sheet for the Vox-Antenna or Auspex Shrine, those rules (suggested terrain traits and additional narrative play abilities) are part of the War Zone Nachmund: Vigilus Alone campaign supplement that is available separately for 42,50 EUR.
Warhammer 40,000 – Battlezone: Fronteris – Landing Pad
As announced on Saturday with the Battlezone Fronteris Nachmund bundle for Warhammer 40k, we'll be covering its contents one by one, starting with the Landing Pad.
The boxed set with terrain in 28mm scale and has a RRP of 55 EUR or 42,50 GBP (~51 EUR). It consists of a large sprue and single casted piece for the topper. The instructions don't cover a data sheet for the terrain piece itself, those rules are part of the War Zone Nachmund: Vigilus Alone campaign supplement that is available separately for 42,50 EUR.
Warhammer 40,000 – Battlezone: Fronteris – Nachmund
Today is the release day of the latest terrain box for Warhammer 40,000 - the Battlezone Fronteris Nachmund. It was originally announced in January as part of War Zone Vigilus and now is finally here.
It went on pre-order last Saturday for 175 EUR and Games Workshop was kind enough to send me a copy for a review. The Nachmund boxed set is a bundle of the individual kits, shown below.
Necromunda – Guild Hall
This one has been travelling my mind for a while. The idea of a octagon terrain piece, using the Sector range, already came along, when I build the Basilicanum from the Sector Imperialis range, as well as the Battle Sanctum from the Adepta Sororitas.
So, when I saw these pieces on the tables of one of the White Dwarf battle reports (this one mostly stayed in my head due to the railway waggons) and the magnificent table build by Shinnentai (only found him on Facebook and Twitter), I felt I needed this in my underhive terrain section as well.
